In most cases this problem code 28 occurs when Windows 2000 is upgraded to Windows XP and the sound card driver becomes deleted. To resolve this problem on your Windows XP. Right click "My computer" and select the "Manage" tab. This will open a window. In the left pane of the Windows click on "Device Manager". On the right side of the Window you will see a list of generic devices installed on your computer. In the list double click on "Sound Video and Game controllers". Once you see your sound card you right click it and on the opened window click on the Update tab. In most cases the code 28 problem is resolved that way but if rarely the problem still continues try downloading and reinstalling the sound card driver.
You will need to contact the manufacturer of your sound card to check the availability of a Windows 7 Sound Driver. It is probably too new for one to be available yet.
