Powers up but keeps shutting down. It will get to the point where it begins the "Windows would not start -windows repair" Then shuts down before finishing. It was working fine until my friend stepped on it and broke the screen. I replaced the screen and it worked fine for a few days. Then it started randomly turning off. Now it's where I stated at the beginning. THe lights on the front are on for the "Plugged in" and the battery light is on but is orange. Could this be something to do with the battery not charging, holding a charge? I'm praying that I don't have to replace the mother board.
Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

That usually indicates battery is beginning to go bad. Eventually it will not hold a charge and will need to be replaced.

Most likely, either the power jack inside the machine (jack itself or solder joints) or the plug on the power cord was damaged; obviously the plug is only a few dollars to replace, the jack also only a few dollars, but much more labor intensive. My experience tells me it's probably the power jack. If you have any way to externally charge your battery and, using it, find the machine operational, that pins it down pretty well. When the external supply is used, the internal battery is supposed to be switched out of the load circuit and into charging mode.

One thing you can check is the battery contacts on the laptop. You'll notice small metal contact points where you install the battery. clean those and make sure they are 100% dust free. IF there is any kind of dust build up or corrosion on the contact points they will not work correctly.
Also check for any physical damage to the contacts.
Please rate as "very helpful" if this helps your situation & i'd love feedback. ^_^
SOURCE: NEW Battery not properly charging
Batteries have electronics data that software has to get to properly charge it. Newer lithium batteries maybe different. But apparently, you have a work around for a lengthy use of the new battery.

When I mentioned that the lights were on for the Plugged in, and battery I forgot to specify that the light for the "Plugged in" is green, the light for the "battery "is orange.
