Is trim motor turning, when switch is engaged? If not, can you hear the trim relays click with switch engauged? Do you have switch on engine as well? Did you check the fuses?
problem in the control valves for the up/down hydraulics
indicates a leak either in the valve or in the ram seals or cylinder damage
you will need to get it to a shop that is accredited with that system ( mercury service center)
it normal would be on top of the motor were all your electrical comes into the motor .you would see 50 amp fuses next to them there should be 4 round black contactors that have all your wires from your tilt motor and your trim motor connected to them. but if it still works its not the contactors .try this have some one pull up on the outdrive while you hit the switch . if it goes up its your tilt motor has water in it or was damaged by hitting something . water damage is fixable only if its fresh water .salt water you need not waist your time . buy a new one .and if it is fresh water ,if you no how to take stuff apart and putt it back togeather again...the tilt motor need to be cleaned ,up and new seal kit put in it .it should work fine again .
swop the solinoids and try again if then goes down and not up then the solinoid is duff ! if nothing then check the trim switch wires with a multi metre , check wires not broken etc also !
On the bottom of the trim/tilt cylinder there is a big white slotted head screw usually located on the right side. Turn that out about 3 turns. Have someone help you manually lift the engine and while it is up tighten that screw back up and it should stay. From there you can check your trim lines and check the Cylinder for leaks. Also check to make sure that there is no water in the system. Once the engine is all the way up just engage the tilt lock and you will be able to do anything that you need to without fear of the engine bleeding back down.
