Compaq v2000 only charging led lit, no power pressing 'on' switch

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED lightup? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

It sounds like the Battery is Dead or not charging. You might try a local pc shop and see if they have any laptop batteries for you laptop. Or have them test to see if the battery is charging.

Take out the battery and only hook up the AC Adapter to see if the laptop turns on. If it does then you know the battery is shorting out the laptop and either has very little power to turn on the laptop or is shorting out the laptop cause its bad.

If you don't get the laptop to turn on, make sure your using a well known working wall outlet to plug the laptop to and only use the AC Adapter. If you AC Adapter is hooked up and the Green Led turns on then you know the adapter is good.

After those two steps, you can also try taking out the dvd drive and the hard drive. Then try turning on the laptop and if the laptop still doesn't turn on then the motherboard is bad in the laptop.

That all power cord connections are secure.

That an LED on the AC power supply adapter is lit when plugged into an AC wall outlet (not available on all AC power supply adapters).

That the AC power supply adapter is the correct type.

Troubleshoot the System Board
If you've verified that the AC power functions properly, troubleshoot the PC's system board by following the steps below.

1.
Remove the battery, and keep the notebook connected to AC power.
2.
Press and release the Power button to start the computer.

If the notebook PC powers on , then the AC adapter and system board are functioning properly. Go to Troubleshoot the battery .

If the Power LED is off , then the AC power adapter needs to be replaced. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance.

If the power LED is on , but the notebook PC does not power on, then the notebook PC needs to be repaired. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance.
3.
Shut down Windows by selecting Shut Down from the Start Menu.

Troubleshoot the battery
If you have verified the AC power supply and system board are functioning correctly, troubleshoot the battery by following the steps below.

1.
Insert the battery into the battery compartment on the bottom of the notebook PC.
2.
Connect the AC power supply and allow the battery to charge for 15 to 30 minutes.
NOTE: The Battery Charging light should be on while the battery is charging. If it is not on, check the AC power adapter connection to the notebook PC.
3.
Unplug the AC power adapter cord from the notebook PC.
4.
Press and release the Power button to start the computer using only the battery as the power source.

If the PC does not power on, then the battery needs to be replaced. Contact HP service and support for further assistance.
*
If the notebook PC does power on, the battery is functioning properly.
NOTE: If you have purchased a second battery for your notebook PC or you have access to an identical battery, you can also check the battery by inserting the second battery into the PC and performing the Troubleshoot the battery steps again.

Please plug to power and charge for 12 hours before switching on again.

HELLO,PRESS AND HOLD THE POWER ON BUTTON FOR A FEW SECONDS UNTIL YOU GET A POWER LIGHT.ONCE YOU GET THE LIGHT,THE LAPTOP SHOULD BOOT UP NORMALLY.IF THAT DOESNT WORK,REMOVE THE BATTERY AND TRY TO POWER UP WITH JUST THE AC ADAPTER PLUGGED IN.ONCE YOU GET BOOTED,INSTALL THE BROADCOM WIRELESS CARD SOFTWARE FIRST FROM THE CD THAT CAME WITH THE ADAPTER.THE SET-UP WILL THEN ASK YOU TO INSTALL THE CARD AFTER THE DRIVERS HAVE BEEN LOADED.YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET ONLINE ONCE ALL THE STEPS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.GOOD LUCK

My guess since the battery checked fine in another laptop would indeed be the charging board or charging circuit on the motherboard.

ur battery may be drained off remove ur battery and switch it to ac power and start again . if its ok insert battery and charge it
