Toshiba TP50H15 Rear projection TV - Sound drops in and out

The sound will come on very low and then after a period of time it will "pop" back to normal. Some times it will go very low and again, after a period of time, will pop back to normal. It's not distorted, just very low volume.

Is there a PC board with the amp on it that needs to be replaced?

Thanks

SOURCE: my toshiba TP50H15 color tv comes on then off and the light blink

The flashing power light on those Toshibas is usually caused by capacitors on the power board having failed solder connections. I have fixed them before by removing the power board and resoldering the capacitors. If you have experience with soldering and electronics it is an easy repair. Most shops will recommend replacing the entire board since their labor to repair it would probably cost more. Toshiba put out a service bulletin on this issue which a good technician should be aware of. (If memory serves the capacitors are C109 and C110.  Since your TV still turns on you probably haven't blown fuse F860 which often blows when these capacitors act up.)

SOURCE: NAD 7020e sudden volume drops, sudden distortion- intemittently

OK. I dont know the answer to your prob, but to let you konw that youre not in this alone, my amp used to occasionly lose considerable volume in one channel. this could be remedied by cracking the volume up to max for a half second or so. (Not a great solution!!) It has finally given up the ghost ...I have lost one channel and the doctor says it wont come back. Not only this but they claim that spares ceased to be sold back in the 90's. having said this I have enjoyed this amp for almost 20 years. I think its time to put it to pasture.

Toshiba 57h82 has sound but no picture. Power light comes on and does not blink. I believe the TV was left on for a long period of time. What should I check for?

1)Make sure the ventilation slots are clear of dust and debris.
2)listen for odd sounds from within the housing. snaps, crackles and pops are not good sounds.
3)Make sure the fans are running
4)Remove the lamp, following the instructions in your manual. Do not touch any part of the glass lamp!!!!!!!
One sign of a bad lamp is a blackened base of the arc chamber(the tube inside the lamp.)
There is really no way to test arc lamps except send it to the mfr.

Good luck! let me know if you figure it out.

Pop sound and now no picture or sound still gets power

Try disconnecting all the cables from the TV then reconnect them after a few minutes. It's suggested that you connect the power cable from the TV directly to a functional wall outlet.

If still there is no picture on the TV then it's required to replace the projection lamp.

Toshiba HD made a popping sound and went out.

Check the lamp to see if it popped. Try replacing it. Also check the web for class action law suit for these sets, Toshiba has an extended warranty for lamps for certain units.

5 year old tv

Mine is Toshiba 55 TZ, have it since 98', shutdown and red light blinking problem, search the net and found out, generally a Convergence IC (stk392-110) problem. bought 2 for $15 at suburban-elect.com (ebay). replaced following direction from http://www.casiasfamily.com/repairlog/tp50h15.html

Open back cover, 9 screws and wirings (pls mark), removed(soldered) a electronic board infront of convergence ic. removed IC (stk392-110) (screwed and soldered).

Replaced everything and voila...! it is now working again..
no more shutsdown and red blinking light. Saves mo $400 for a repariman. of course just be careful with static and stuff.

I don't know how to solder, so I ask friend to do it for me. But I did the rest. Just to give you an idea that it can be done even if you don't know much about electronics. This in no way a recommendation but just stating my experience. Follow at own risk.
