Toshiba 50H81 50" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
if you heard a pop that would be a capacitor unable to take the voltage, hopefully no other damage, you will need to identify the capacitors that have gone and replace the parts with the same number ie 40v 300uf 105c remember don't touch the 400v or 200v capacitors as they will still have power in them, discharge them by placing a metal object over the + and the - on the capacitor and then the board will be safe.it could also be the bulb has gone. you would need to check this as if the bulb has gone the tv will shut down. and flash but usually there is an led that flashes to tell you bulb failed.

the tv has a built in decoder. if its scrambled it may be on the wrong setting. try resetting tv to factory settings and see if it sorts its self out. if not it may need the av board changing as it has a fault with the decoder chip.

if using a box unplug it and set from power and wait, then plug both up and let reboot to see if it helps--if a real problem in the set the cost to repair and the parts that may not even be available end the life of this set..

check if the problem looks zig zag looking or it its not present in the PIP window. If so this may be an issue with the hypermodule - you can google TV repair Kits to find parts.

you have a defective audio amplifier IC and must be replaced, likely cause is the shorting out of the speaker terminals, on the main board you will find a IC mounted vertical attached to a heat sink, flowing the speaker trace from the speaker connector may help to locate this IC, once you have found it you can obtain the part number from it and contact a local electronic pars supplier for a replacement, after you have the replacement and it is installed make cretin that there are no short circuits are in your speaker connections external and internal with an ohm meter. also you should check the speaker impedance is within tolerances of the tv speaker output impedance.

If you want to watch some content in HD you will either need to connect your TV to the computer using a VGA or DVI cable, or connect using HDMI(picture + sound transfer) cable to the computer/DVD... You can connect your TV also using Cinch or Scart cables but you will not have HD resolution. Hope this helps!

Possible that the input logic selector is faulty as there can be a digital gate failure. This can cause the input to be scrambled and so there is loss of sync. which can result in the poor picture. So it is important to trace the input, check using a signal feed to find the switching fault. It can also be related to a fault in the video board but the fault points to this section as the video signal is clear otherwise.

You are going to see this same answer for a lot of problems that are temperature related. It is a good first step.
I
need to assume you are a DIY and have some electrical experience. If
you aren't comfortable taking apart on of these TV's then you should
call an expert. If you are comfortable, then read on.
It has
been my experience with older rear projectors that the solder joints on
the main board become cracked over time. If you have a set that shuts
down or stops working properly after warming up, you might be able to check the board for bad
joints.
Always be careful when working on these old beasts. I
would always unplug them and let them sit over night to discharge a bit
before opening them up. The picture tubes still hold a charge so be
careful.
Cold solder joints or cracked ones can be seen with
really good lighting. Look for a half moon shape on the solder joint,
epically on the large transistors near the heat sinks. Be careful not
to cause solder bridges when you are touching up the solder joints.
Hope this helps.
