Broken handle how do you remove and replace the handle ? this is an FMV156DCC microwave.

  • Idementis Feb 12, 2009

I had the same thing happen. Purchased a new handle at

https://store.appliancezone.com, cost $84.55 including shipping to Utah. Part #5304440323

Removing the choke was easy just go slow with putty knife or screwdriver the screws are phillips head.

As this microwave is built-in it was cheaper and less hassle than replacing the whole microwave.

Almost all microwave ovens manufacturers locate the handle mounting screws behind the inner black plastic frame known as the 'choke'. If done very carefully, the choke can be removed with a putty knife without breaking it. My suggestion would be to order a handle and a choke. HOWEVER ordering a complete door will be less aggravation and not a lot more money. The handle and choke will cost around $120.00 whereas a complete door goes for around $130.00. You likely have a failed bottom door switch, or that switch's mount is loose, misaligned, or broken.

The service manual will help you with disassembly, etc. It is here.

My help file on door switches is here.

It's broken

The door handle can easily be replaced on most microwave ovens. You just have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and/or replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

The cost usually averages about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided. However, price and configuration of your oven also depends upon the MODEL NUMBER. If the model number is correct, the part number for a replacement door handle is WB15X10023.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

How to replace door handle on microwave frigidare fmv156dcc

You will need to access the door handle mounting screws and remove it to replace the door handle. To access the screws on MOST microwave ovens, you must remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. This can be accomplished by using a small screwdriver or putty knife to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass to pop the panel loose. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that shields you from harmful microwaves.

With the inner panel removed, the door handle screws are visibile and easily be accessed with a screwdriver. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place and seats properly.

This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwaves, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.

If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Need to replace broken door handle. Cannot get to screws inside door to release broken handle and replace with new handle.

Look for a removable insert around the inside window. If not there may be screws along the outside edges to separate the door sections. Eric

Underneath the microwave, on the right & left hand corner sides at the back, there are levers that you pull down & it releases the mounting bracket.
