Vhs view block

Other VHS tapes play in VCR, but this tape starts to play and then stops playing and TV then shows "NO SIGNAL." The tape was purchased at a library sale, and was a tape different than the title on the tape box. Someone mistakenly put wrong in tape box when returned to library. It's as though tape owner is blocking viewing of homemade tape or copyrighted material. No punch-out on VHS

The tape in question starts to play and the video is seen playing on the monitor, then after 2 or 3 seconds the video stops playing. The tape will fast-forward without stopping, and display the fast-forwarding video on the monitor. The video will also rewind without stopping, and display the rewinding video on the monitor. It doesn't seem to be the VCR since other tapes play on the VCR without stopping. It seems as though there is some mechanism on the tape preventing it from being viewed. Maybe the tape is too tightly wound, but it fast-forwards and rewinds without stopping. Thank you very much to all who put your expertise to work in figuring a solution to this problem, and have a nice day. Daryl

Very odd indeed. All VHS tapes have a slot underneath them which you can push a screwdriver or pen in. This will remove the brakes on the Reels, they will then turn by hand. You have to have something in the slot all the time. The slot can be found at the back between the two Reels. You should see a groove running through it. Your probem could also be cassette itself. You can change it though. Get a blank E180 tape and use the shell of that. What you will have to do is take both tapes apart. There are 5 screws on each tape remove them all. Try taking an old tape apart first if you have never done it before. What you will need to is put that tape in the new video case. Avoid touching the tape. Just move the two reels to the new case.

It sounds to me like you have a blank tape or an SVHS tape, which won't play on a VHS machine though they look the same tape.

SOURCE: stuck tape in vhs/tv combo

Unplug the TVCR, take the cover off, find the motor (probably on the right side of the mechanism) and turn its shaft with your fingers until you have run the tape back out. Now plug it back in and try it again with a scarificial tape. If it continues to fail, replace all the rubber belts in the mechanism.
Hope ya fix it!

SOURCE: tv/digital converter box & vcr-dvd hook-up

I have a vhs and dvd player all in one
I have a converter box hooked up to my tv and vcr , dvd player combined
I can play my movies on the tv. ok.
you have to have your tv and vcr set on channel 3. if that is what your main tv is set up with. Or 4 if you have your tv set up with that.
Mine plays ok. My settings are for channel 3
My suggestion would be to check your hook ups. maybe they are not hooked up correctly
I had to go to www.google.com and did searches to help with hook up.
I can also record station I am watching with vcr on vsh tapes. I do not have a dvd recorder.
I found out that you have to have 2 converter boxes hooked to one tv., in order to record on on station while watching another. I have not tried that, as I don't have 2 converter boxes for one tv. I found that by doing google search also. Good Luck

I have a number of VHS-C tapes from my various video cameras in the early-to-mid 1990s that I'm transferring to DVD via my DVD/VCR combo device. But several of of these tapes that have the suffix...

VHS-C and S VHS-C are two different animals. Super VHS-C will have much better video resolution than standard VHS and uses better videotape. A standard VCR will not play the Super format. You need a S VHS VCR. You would need not only a S VHS VCR but also a S VHS-C adapter. Yes, Not even the adapter is the same as a standard VHS-C adapter cassette.

You can send out your few S VHS-C tapes to a video conversion service. That might be the least expensive way to get them on DVD. Otherwise you could look on E-Bay.com for either a compatible camcorder (S VHS-C) or the S VHS VCR and the S VHS-C adapter.

http://vhs-to-dvd.com is one video conversion service that should be able to get your tapes on DVD for you. You could also look locally for a video service that does conversions to DVD.

Audio Problems playing VHS tapes with Denon AVR 1910

Did it EVER work as expected with VCR audio through the HDMI or are we working through that right now assuming it can?

I don't have a detailed manual, but the rear panel clearly shows some analog-only outputs (and NO digital ones) for the section called DVD/VCR. Internally, I'm sure there are proper analog-digital-converters for recording VHS to the native DVD-R, but VHS VCR's are NOT inherently digital audio devices so I'm pretty sure you need to run an analog RCA pair for the VHS video.

Why won't older Sanyo VCR playback VHS tape on new HD-LCD TV?

Hello,
The problem is not with your TV. I have had this problem as well and the older the VCR gets the harder it is for it to turn the tape. Does your VCR react the same way with other tapes? Try Fastforwarding the tape about halfway and then test it again.

Adapter question

There are no such adapters that would allow 8mm, Hi8 and Mini DV tapes to be played in a VHS VCR. Only the old VHS-C tapes can fit and play in an adapter. There are several reasons why 8mm (or Hi8 and miniDV tapes) cannot be physically played in a VHS VCR: 1. 8mm (Hi8, miniDV) is a different format with different technical characteristics than VHS. These formats were never developed with the intention to be mechanically compatible with current VHS technology. 2. 8mm/Hi8 tapes are 8mm wide (miniDV is 6mm wide), while VHS tape is 1/2" wide, making it impossible for a VHS video head to read the taped information correctly. 3. 8mm/Hi8/miniDV tapes are recorded and played at different speeds than VHS, so even if the tapes could physically fit into a standard VHS VCR, the VCR still couldn't play back the tapes at their correct speeds. 4. 8mm/Hi8/minDV audio is recorded differently than VHS. 8mm/Hi8 audio is recorded in AFM HiFi mode, while miniDV audio is recording in 12-Bit or 16-Bit PCM digital audio format. So, even if the video could be played back in a VHS VCR, the audio could not be read properly. 5. 8mm/Hi8 video is of higher resolution than VHS and is recorded in a different bandwidth length (miniDV video is recorded digitally), so once again, a standard VCR still could not read the information correctly, even if the tape could fit into a VCR.
