I just purchased a new ac adapter for my Dell Inspiron 9100, but the computer is not recognizing it. The battery will not charge and is now at 0% power.
Did the old one do the same thing? If true, your battery sounds like it is dead.
How long did the laptop sit without a charger, like months? Left the battery in? If true, the battery is mostly dead now. :(
Oh I see. Is it a generic replacement? Or is it from Dell? A generic one might not work. As some manufactures use tricks to prevent clone replacements from working. :(
No, they send proprietary data through the cable to see if it is a real Dell or not. And take out the battery if you are not going to use it for a week or more. As that will prevent any damage to the battery if you let it sit too long inside the computer.
Okay you are welcome. I hope everything works out.

No. The battery was working and the adapter was charging. I have had multiple adapters go bad over the past few years
At best two weeks. The battery still had a charge when I plugged in the adapter. But when the computer starts, it says that it does not recognize the adapter. I have tried going through the setup routine F2 and even reinstalled drivers but it will not charge the battery
We ordered it online and I am beginning to think it is a generic
Is there any way around the "trick"? :)
Bummer! : ( I have written to the company that sold us the adapter, but I wondered if this was the problem. Thanks for trying.
