If it doesn't show up at all under "Computer" go into "Disk Management" Right click Computer > Manage > DIsk Management.
If it is missing in here then the card is bad. It it shows up here, initialize it if it asks to, otherwise right click the card and add new Simple Volume.

If you see it under "Computer" and when you try to traverse it and it asks to format disk. Format it. This happens when the MFT record on the SD card is corrupt and formatting it will fix it.

SOURCE: Why wont my computer read my SD card? i have a

If the 8Gb SD card works on your HD camera, then the problem is with your built in memory card of your computer. Most of the built in memory cards of the computer only supports up to 2Gb.
You can actually isolate it by trying to test an SD card lower than 8Gb to your computer.
Solution for this is to use external USB SD reader that supports high capacity SD card (SDHC) or contact the manufacturer of your computer and ask for firmware updates for the memory card reader. Hope this is clear and would help you.

I would check you have all the latest updates for your Vista installation as I know for some versions of Windows extra updates are necessary for exfat support.

Sd card format software

Start up a computer with Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7. Insert the SD card into an external memory card reader or into the computer's built in card reader. If it the first time a SD card has been inserted into the computer, Windows will recognize the SD card and automatically install drivers to read the memory card.

Go to the computer view by clicking on the windows start menu icon in the bottom right corner of the computer. In Windows 7 and Vista click "Computer". In Windows XP click "My Computer"

Right click on the SD drive under the computer heading. A dialog box with different options for the drive will appear. Click on "Format" to bring up the formatting dialog box.

Select the type of formatting (also known as file system format). In Windows XP or Vista there are several choices including FAT, FAT 32, and NTFS. In Windows 7 there is an added choice called exFAT formatting. This is an improved FAT formatting type with improved meta data capabilities. Choose the formatting type, name if the drive if desired, check or uncheck the "quick format" option, and press the "Start" button. When the SD card format is complete Windows will provide a notification.

Please check if the Computer supports SD card of larger capacity.
If preinstalled OS is Windows XP Operating System, supports SD card from 512 MB to 2 GB max and does not support SDHC card.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 Computer supports SD and SDHC card upto 8 GB to 16 GB,.

Sony webcam no longer works with windows 7

    1. The drivers for this Web camera may not be developed for Windows 7 64 bit by the manufacturer.
You will either have to purchase a new camera to be compatible with Windows 7 or Vista 64.
This is also true for your SD card reader.

Windows vista is not recognizing my canon g10, so i am unable to download photos

Your camera uses SD or SDHC cards. All you have to do is to take the SD card out of your camera and put it in your computer's SD card slot to read the files. If your computer does not have an SD card reader, you can buy one with USB interface from places like Walmart, Kmart, or Bestbuy for under $10. Or get one off Ebay for even less.

Sd Card reader not recognising SDHC cards

When You Insert your SD card into the internal card reader, then the SD card is not recognised by the system and the SD card drive doesn't show there. The problem can be because of driver issue, system issue and device issue.
To fix the problem you need to go at device manager if there is a yelllow sign in SD card controller, the problem is most probably caused by a driver issue. Then you need to update the driver. You can also download the driver for your card reader.
Also, check if your SD Card is broken. You can also check it into different devices port.
If it is detected then you can backup of your data.

If the problem not resolved by any means and you require you SD Card data then I will suggest you read - https://www.stellarinfo.co.in/services/removable-media-recovery.php
