A small chip of plastic broke off of my SD card inside the card slot of my XSi camara. We cant get it out, & fell deeper in the slot (out of site) when we tried turning it upside down to shake it out. Will this cause problems with my camara or is the SD card slot, in the camara, self contained, so the plastic chip will stay in that area?

A plastic piece is not an issue in an electronic device. As long as the piece is not part of the SD card holder slot.

SOURCE: Memory card locked

Hello

Ok, here is something you can try:

In your case the problem is not with the card but rather with your camera's card reader. This is a rather hard problem to fix yourself but here is what you can do.

Open the card slot of your camera and peer inside with a sharp light or torch. You should see a little metal tab or switch inside the card slot. This is the write protection switch. Contrary to popular belief , the switch on the card does not impact the operation of the card itself but rather tells the camera that the card should be locked by depressing the little pin inside.

If you put a protected card into a camera with no protection switch , the card would operate normally.

However , with time and repeated use , the switch will start to bend slightly until it will no longer depress when a unlocked card is inserted.

With a toothpick or needle , slightly and very gently push this tab up a little bit. (some camera's will require you to pull the tab down), This will allow the switch to operate once again and should solve your problem.

Kind Regards
Andrea

How to extract a camera storage chip from the DVD player slot of my iMac?

I have not done this before however,
1. Power off the MAC.
2. Hold the Mac vertically on its side with the DVD slot facing down
3. Give gentle tap on the top and back of the laptop

The SD Card ought to fall off

My memory card won't lock in place therefore I get a "no memory" card message.

Unfortunately it sounds like the locking clip inside the SD card slot is broken or some how stuck? If you can try to look inside the SD card slot in the camera with a flash light, there should be a small clip like plastic to the left sticking out. That is what locks the SD card in place. See if anything is stuck in between like debris, you might gently poke that clip and see if it is stuck? That is what locks the SD card in place, if it is broken or missing, that will require some work to replace the plastic lock.

Mac os x 10.5.8

Man, that's an old MFP. I still work on those though. The problem is driver compatibility in the MAC OS. I haven't had to troubleshoot with that OS. Sorry
This is what I could find in the Product Service Guide for the 1515MF:
Printer Utility for Mac

This software provides several convenient functions for
printing from Macintosh clients.

It does state on the Ricoh Technician's Site that the firmware for this printer must be updated and each firmware must be installed one at a time, not as a batch. You would need a small SD card about 256MB is more than enough. The card is placed in slot 2 and the slots are covered by a thin plastic plate on the left side of the printer near the Ethernet port. you need either a philips or a 5.5mm nut driver to remove the one screw holding that plate in place. The printer must be turned off before you take out the one chip in Slot 1. YOU MUST REMOVE ANY CHIPS THAT ARE ALREADY IN SLOTS BEFORE INSTALLING ANY FIRMWARE UPDATE SD CHIPS. YOU MUST MAKE SURE YOU RETURN THOSE CHIPS BACK TO THEIR CORRECT PORT OR YOU CAN CORRUPT THE MAIN BOARD AND THE MACHINE IS KAPUT!!!
Sorry, That's important to put in capitals.

Good luck.

I know that HP sucks but if you insert the card into the correct opening it will work. If you are incapable of doing so, have someone else do it for you.

I have a canon XSI camera. i have the following problem. After i took some pictures ,i took off the sd memory card from the camera to see the pictures in the pc.I saw the pictures wihtout problems and when...

Yes, you are correct. Many people think that the little slider on the memory card is a switch that does something inside the card. In fact, the slider is just that... a tiny plastic slide and nothing else. There is indeed a microswitch inside the camera, and it is necessary that the plastic slide operates this microswitch (which it should do in the 'unlocked' position) for writing to the card to be enabled. If the microswitch is not operated, the camera gives 'card locked' error.

Try a different card. If you find one that works, perhaps the tolerances are out of spec. If no card works, perhaps the microswitch is actually broken.

hi Jfurbees.
this is all i could think off just to help you out in till you can get it fixed.

I don't have a permanent fix, but one thing that works is folding up a small piece of paper and holding it over the memory card while closing the cover so that the cover pushes on the paper which holds the memory card in place automatically when the cover is closed. You just have to experiment to get the folded paper the right size and thickness. Again, its not a fix, but it has worked for me.
I shone a really bright light into the SD slot and sure enough, behind the gold springs at the bottom of the card slot, was a tiny black sliver of plastic that moved slightly when I tipped the camera. About 3mm long.
I removed the camera battery. Then I got a big long sewing needle, and with some very gentle manouvering, so as not to scratch anything inside the camera's SD slot, it fell out just when I was about to give up.
After I'd got the plastic sliver out, I trimmed the splintered edge of the SD card and put it back in

this is not to say it will work for you but give it a try but this will be at your own risk.

Windows vista is not recognizing my canon g10, so i am unable to download photos

Your camera uses SD or SDHC cards. All you have to do is to take the SD card out of your camera and put it in your computer's SD card slot to read the files. If your computer does not have an SD card reader, you can buy one with USB interface from places like Walmart, Kmart, or Bestbuy for under $10. Or get one off Ebay for even less.

How do you put your sandisk microSDHC card with adapter in your camera

That depends on the camera. If the camera supports Sandisk Micro, then the SD card will fit into a slot. The slot is often located near to the battery.

You will just have to push card in and camera will automatically read card.

If camera does not read the card, ensure that the camera model can support SanDisk Micro, and that it will also support card size. Older cameras do not support big memory card (eg.4Gb)

I'm Lost

On laptops the slot where an sd chip goes is usually filled with a piece of plastic to prevent dust/debris from entering. You'll have to push this plastic piece in to get it to pop out.

To tell you where your slot is located you need to give us the specific make and model of your computer.
