The common reasons are a shorted diode many use, the inverter board used for control and power, and the Magnetron which does the work

SOURCE: microwave won't heat.

Magnatron is suspect. Need to put a voltmeter and see if the input (primary) side to the high-voltage transformer (big heavy iron thing in there) is getting 120Vac. Don't touch the other (high voltage) side of this transformer. If the power is there, you are looking at replacing the magnatron. Its affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"

This would be under warranty, so Maytag should take care of it for you: http://maytag.com/support/index.jsp

With the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it's not shorted, it's probably okay)
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/xformer.html

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

If you are looking to repair this yourself (along with assoceated risks) to cut test time in half the first test point would be to check for both live and neutral feed to the high voltage transformer. If you have both live and neutral here then the control circuit is working and the fault will lie within the high voltage circuit.

Hope this helps

MMV5207AAB, no heating, operation seems normal otherwise, slight roughness sound. Probably magnetron?

If the microwave works normally but no heat is being made, then the magnetron is faulty.

My Maytag microwave stopped heating. Everything

Generally the magnetron (the part that heats the food) is the cause if everything else still works. Unfortunately replacing the magnetron is barely cheaper than buying a new microwave though you can check out repairclinic.com to decide whether you want to attempt replacing the part.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Loader than normal noise but no heat, every thing else seems to function properly

If you are hearing a loud buzzing noise then it may be the Power Diode, Magnetron, or High Voltage Capacitor. This link will tell you how to test & replace the defective part. http://www.partselect.com/repair.aspx?appliance=microwave&part=no-heat

I have a Maytag microwave, model# MMV5165BA and it has no heat.Everything displays and vent works but no heat. Can you suggest anything before I toss it out?

If it operates as normal but items don't seem to get hot it probably is a Magnatron failure (microwave producer). More times than not the repair / replacement of a Magnatron these days is not worth the investment, especially if the microwave is 4 years old or older ! You should be able to replace your microwave with a similar featured microwave / hood for about $300 to $400. You might try a JVM1750DMWW by GE great micro/hood for about $300, includes one touch sensor cook capabilities,300 CFM vent fan, removable rack, option to turn the turntable on or off, 1000 watts of cooking power. Good luck !
