It sounds like the hdd has failed. When you try to boot can you hear the hdd attempting to spin up? Best solution if everything else checked out would be to replace the hdd. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

I turn on my compaq presario. However, when the microsoft logo appears it stops there and keeps on loading, which means the screen is black. I tried a hard reset and many other things, but it doesn't work....

Hi!
You can try restoring the computer back in time when date isn't yet present using system restore. I suggest you do it in Safe Mode, you can access that by tapping F8 as soon as you turn the PC on( I mean as soon as you press the power button). You will see a bunch of options, please select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking. Then once you booted to Safe Mode, please perform a System Restore. Hope this helps.

I have a compaq presario x1000 that wont let me get past the logo. It was working fine one day, but then I shut it down. The next morning I booted it up it the computer never went past the Compaq logo.

It is likely that the hard drive is bad or a memory issue. I would start by removing the hard drive and see if it goes past the compaq screen. If it does then you know what is wrong. If not message me and will walk you through the next step

Bios says no ide device found (hard frive missing?)

If the BIOS is not detecting your hard drive, then there are two possible suspects here. Could just be your hard drive or it also be your motherboard.

If you have already reseated your hard drive and memory and the symptoms are still the same, then go to the nearest local computer shop that sells HP. Have them try a known-good hard drive on your system. If it works, purchase a new hard drive. If it doesn't work, your mobo needs to be replaced.
