Is there a water filter in a 9 year old side-by-side ???

Moved two weeks ago and replaced copper water line to fridge with a soft plastic line (needed longer line). Water slowly fills @ 1/2" in cup & trickles to nothing. I thought may have been clogged filter from move (never replaced). However, NO filter in inside top, nor bottom front of fridge, per Appliance repairperson. Where is it or is there a filter to a 9 year old GE model ?????

SOURCE: Water won't flow from GE Smart Water under-sink RO water filter

Disconnect the water pressure tank making sure the end the line hooks up to is open. The tank should be relatively light, and if you shake it you should not hear any water. If you hear water in it, or it feels heavy, that means the bladder inside the tank has failed. Replace the tank with a new one, and set the pressure on the bicycle type valve at 8 PSI before you connect the tank up to the water line.

SOURCE: I replaced the water filter for my GE GSH25JSTA SS

I have had the same problem with the same model several times in the past. It also happens to me within a few days of replacing the water filter.

In my case, I believe the water line in the freezer door has become frozen. I usually let the freezer thaw for a couple of hours, and my water works again.

I have had constant problems with this model. I would recommend trying to sell your fridge now while it's still running, before the real headaches begin (mine has died 2x in the past six months, and I have not even had it for 2.5 years yet). No more GE's in my house.

SOURCE: burnt plastic smell coming from bottom of frig

This is a sign of a short and should be looked at immediately. A smell like that is a sign of something burning. I could be the start relay and start capacitor with overload. But I would not sleep with the possibility of a fire. I will look over your model and see if I can find what this could be, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: GE Profile leaking onto floor

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section behind the cover underneath the evaporator coil. (hint: use turkey baster with hot water) Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)

Why is my GE (ZFSB23D SS) side by side refrigerator leaking at the back corner, near the rear wheel where the plastic water line goes in?

If the tubing is plastic it could have cracked when you moved the tubing to install the filter. If the tubing is OK then possinly the filter isn't all the way in or is leaking.

My ge profile arctica is about 9 years old. It is freezing food in the refrigerator, temp control is set at a 4 and the thermometer inside reads anywhere from 28 -40 in various areas of the fridge. Milk...

first run the diagnostics on the unit from the tech sheet inside the unit, then if thermistors are bad replace these there are 2 one on the left and one on the right wall in both fridge and freezer,if good per diagnostics then replace the electronic damper door located between the fridge and freezer compartments in the upper left hand corner of the fridge behind the plastic grille as these doors break and jamb open or shut and the temps can no longer be regulated during the diagnostics tests you can hear this door operate if its operating correctly, lastly,if these fail to solve your problem, replace the main control board in the back behind a panel

We purchased foreclosure house that has a GE fridge tpx21prx-possibly 13 years old-no info but does it need filter for ice and water use? There is no filter inside fridge-does copper line need replacing...

This model does not have a filter for the ice and water, you can add an inline filter in back of fridge water line, they sell them at any hardware store, you dont need to change copper line unless it is corroded.

Fridge is one week old both water and ice have a metalic taste. My old fridge had no problem. The only change was I went from copper tubing to plastic.

You probably shook lose sediments that collected in your old water line. Flush as often as you can and the taste will dissipate soon. In other words; run the dickens out of the water and use up the ice to flush it out completely. You might also be tasting the newness of the ice maker and related components. Flush, flush, flush. Also helpful is to clean thoroughly with baking soda everything you can get to.

My new Whirlpool Refrigerator the water and ice still stink

Change the supply line to the plastic tube line or copper. Do not use a braided plastic or metal braided line these will make the water taste bad. Changed mine to the plastic line and cured mine, no filters needed.

Water leak at filter

I had this with a Kitchenaid Superba and wanted to get rid of the filter holder assembly entirely as I have an undersink unit which serves the fridge. I removed the plastic line (nut) at the back of the fridge (which led to the filter holder at the front) where the flexible copper tubing inserted (this was a 3/8' compression fitting-plastic) and also the returning line (1/4" copper compression nut on a plastic line) at the manifold (again in the back of the fridge) where it gets split between the water line and the ice line. I then just connected the 1/4" flexible copper directly to the manifold (1/4" nut, compression sleeve, male-male connector) using a pre-made 1/4" flexible compression line. Sounds complicated but after seeing how the water routes it was fairly quick work.

Bad water & ice cube taste

Hello redwood City
Welcome

You said,
Your Kitchenaid Superba KSRG25FKBL15 has bad tasting water and ice cubes. You replaced the copper tubing which delivers the water to the fridge and that didn't help. You replaced the copper tubing again with plastic tubing...no better. Any suggestions? Your tap water doesn't taste this bad.You bought a Kenmore french door fridge with water dispenser in the door in July 2008. The fridge has a filter. A few weeks after the fridge came the water and ice started tasting really bad, unlike any bad water taste I have ever tasted. And your tap water is fine. The bad taste appears to be random. Sometimes you get a cup full of nasty water and sometimes it tastes fine.

First you must know you have a 1 year warranty and can have them come out to fix anything, no charge. If it persists. You will have to get tough and you , MUST INSIST THEY REPLACE YOUR FRIDGE

When installing the water line these were a part of the directions!
Did you do this before connecting the water line to your fridge?
"Place the free end of the tubing in a container or sink, and
turn ON the main water supply. Flush the tubing until water is
clear. Turn OFF the shutoff valve on the water pipe. Coil the
copper tubing."

Whirlpool remedy
Off-taste, odor or gray color in the ice
1.Are the plumbing connections new, causing discolored or
off-flavored ice? Discard the first few batches of ice.
2.Have the ice cubes been stored too long? Throw old ice
away and make a new supply.
3.Does the freezer and ice storage bin need to be cleaned?
See “Cleaning” or “Ice Maker and Storage Bin.”
4.Has food in the freezer or refrigerator been wrapped
properly? Use airtight, moisture-proof packaging to help
prevent odor transfer to stored food.
5.Does the water contain minerals (such as sulfur)? A filter
may need to be installed to remove the minerals.
6. Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? Gray or
dark discoloration in ice indicates that the water filtration
system needs additional flushing. Run additional water
through the water dispenser to flush the water filtration
system more thoroughly (at least 2 to 3 gal. [8 to 12 L] or 6 to
7 minutes initially). Discard discolored ice.

Let me know what works,
Thank You ,
HUUUM!!

Bad water & ice cube taste

the feed line of the water source is bad replace it you will also need to clean the ice makers insides to remove the rest of the contamination
and 2 more suggestions:1) change the filter - older refers have the filter in the water line serving the ice maker - newer refers have the water filter in the refer (it looks much like an auto oil filter); 2) do not store ice for extended periods when ice use is not high e.g. during cooler months. Unless you use a full basket of ice over say a few weeks you should dump all and start over periodically.
thanks.

Filtered Water tastes "off"

Could be something foreign in the water line on the fridge side...or somewhere in the ice maker/ water dispenser inside the fridge......when it tastes stale....maybe there is something maybe mold or something that is part of the plastic ????
I usually add an in-line filter to my water line before it reaches the fridge so that 99% of the elements are trapped before it gets to the fridge. My original filter is still good. Maybe someone needs to inspect the ice maker with a a bright light and an inspection mirror to see if there is any thing that looks suspicious....this is only a suggestion but leaving the line disconnected for so long could even cause something like a small insect to crawl inside the line...
