I just picked up a 480gb NAS 4300 made by Maxtor that is running the Windows 2000 (web-based) and need to reset it to factory defaults so that we can get it setup as no one knows the web password. Can someone plase how to do this? thanks, Jay
Actually if you have the old one running windows server 2000, it does. Monitor and keyboard in the back with bios options to allow a ps/2 mouse. Any issues they have should be able to be fixed via that setup. Mine on the other hand will not boot past the Win Server 2000 splash screen. Good luck to all.
The connections are located on the back under plastic covers.
The Maxtor 4300 does NOT allow you to connect a physical keyboard, mouse or monitor. It does allow you to connect rj45.
Since no one has posted on this I?ll give you my best guess. Disclaimer, I don?t have one of these, Maxtor is now owned by Seagate, they have discontinued support and I can?t find a manual. Having said all of that from what I?ve read this runs Windows 2000 server and allows you to physically connect a keyboard, mouse and monitor to it. I would try connecting these external devices to the box, boot up and try logging in. If you literally don?t know ANY of the passwords you can try booting the system with a utility tool that will find and remove the administrator password. There are several of them readily available (usually Linux based) available for free, here is the link for one: http://home.eunet.no/%7Epnordahl/ntpasswd/. That will allow you to log into the operating system and configure it as you wish. Be aware that this is not supported by Microsoft and could wind up corrupting the operating system. At that point the only option would be to rebuild the server software from scratch. Good luck and let us know how it goes or if you have any other questions.
