Locked computer We want to shut the computer down. There is a window titled UNLOCK COMPUTER and inside it says this computer is in use and locked...only the administrator can unlock it. There is a field to enter a password. We put the only password we've ever used with this computer but it won't unlock.

    Coach Tim:
It was a great suggestion but prior to receiving it, for some reason, the darn box just decided to behave and the problem has not occurred since. Don't understand it but I am keeping your suggestion for solution handy and hope I can find it if this problem comes up again. Thanks for being there. Bugsy

When you forgot windows os password, you could enter into safe mode (F8 when booting up) to remove windows password while you didn't remember user account password, but if you forgot administrator passwords, there's no way to change it, you should use software to recover administrator password. Yesterday evening, I forgot my Windows admin password. In the end, I used Windows Password Seeker to retrieve my Windows password successfully. It's worth a try.

Just a few days ago, I lost my windows vista admin passwords. I solved the trouble with the help of windows password reset tool. It not only support XP/Vista/2000/NT, but also compatible with windows 7, I tested it on my computer installed with Windows 7 and remove the local user and admin accounts password successfully. It's worth trying. You can download it from: http://www.reset-windows-password.com

Bugsy, just in case-have you tried without a password? By pressing and holding down the power button 5+ secs will power down the machine. Removing the battery will shut it down too. The issue is "will you still be locked out when you reboot?" You should try starting in safemode when you reboot (pressing F8) during the initial boot process and see if you can log in as administrator(no password). If you can access safemode try to reset the administrators password in user accounts. Let me know if you've made any progress. Tim

My computer has been locked by an outside source

    Your computer has been hacked.
Your best bet is to reinstall Windows - delete the partition, create a new partition then format the hard disk/partition then continue to install Windows, the computer's device drivers and your programs. I suggest you install a virus scanning program such as mcAfee or Nortons and a router/firewall to prevent further hacks.

    Unlock my windows

first time that I heard a peripherial device shuts off their computer... it's usually expected all the way around. but anyways....

there's software out there you can download if you are locked out of your computer. now.. if you're in a corporate enviroment you're probably better of checking with your systems administrator.

if you own your pc and you just somehow unable to log in with your credentials try this.
