When less than a quarter feel the need to vote for the effort some of us at FixYou offer, I think to myself, ”is it worth it”.

They get help, and do not care to thank you; “thank you” do not cost a dime, so why????

I know my password and username but it says invalide username and password

Either you've (1) entered the credentials incorrectly, (2) remembered them wrong or (3) someone has gained access to the router and changed them.

You can solve this problem only if you have physical access to the router. You should locate the reset button on the router itself. This may be recessed to prevent accidental contact, and if so - will require depressing it with a pointed object such as a pen. Performing a reset will wipe all customized settings and restore the router to factory defaults. This means you will not have wifi access to the router or internet *if* you have changed it from the original factory setting. If you are attempting this via wifi, you will need to know what those wifi settings are or connect the computer via CAT 5 network cable to one of the LAN jacks or ports on the router. Once you have found the the default wifi settings - or - have plugged the computer into a LAN jack, reboot the computer. Next, press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds while it is plugged in & powered up.

This will start the restoration of the factory default settings and cause a reboot the router. The PC will obtain an IP address automatically if connected by cable - or prompt you for the wifi's SSID and security code after it boots up. Enter the wifi factory defaults to gain access to the router and internet.

Next, gain access to the router's "set up" pages. The set up page is usually access by opening your web browser and typing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, or similar private IP address in the address bar. Your manual will have these details. If successful, you will be prompted to provide the router username and password. Again, the factory defaults are in your manual - popular username defaults are "admin" or "root" and popular passwords are: ""admin" or "password"

If successful, you're "in". You should make changes as necessary to prevent others from gaining unauthorized access - again. Do not reuse any of the previous credentials if possible. This means you should (1) change the password (and admin if allowed) fields to something only you would know and do not use words that appear in a dictionary. A mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols should be used. (2) Change the SSID to something other than the default. (3) Choose the option of NOT broadcasting the SSID. (4) Select WPA or WPA2 security. WEP is NO longer considered secure and should not be used. (5) Create another "password" for the WPA security as prompted. You will have to update every device that you wish to give access to the internet; this includes laptops, tablets, game consoles, wifi enabled cell phones, etc. You can make other changes as needed - as these are only the bare *minimum* changes you should make. Be sure your changes are saved before moving to other set up pages or rebooting the router.

Finally, write down the router's admin, password, SSID, security type (WPA or WPA2), security code and the IP address on a small piece of paper. Tape it to the underside of your router. This way, it will remain out of view but readily available to you should you ever forget this information and will save you from having to do all of this again.

Good luck!

Cant connect to the internet..

Hi, What error do you get when connecting to the internet?
Anyways, Probably the Wireless connection your trying to connect to has a Network Security enabled on it.
Gaming consoles cant' access that type of Encryption, reason I do not know why but to be able to get wireless connection using your Nintendo DS you will need to disable the Wireless Network Security of your Wireless Router to be able to get Wireless Access using your Nintendo DS.
I also had issues with mine before and found out that disabling the Network Security will let me get Internet Access on my portable console.
Just Disable the Network Security this will allow you to get Internet Access on your Nintendo, for the Security of your Wireless you can get the MAC Address of each wireless device you have and input those MAC Addresses into the Router Settings to get Security and not allow other poeplt to gain access on your Wireless Internet.
I hope this Helps.
Have a nice day,

While trying to secure the router the process stopped and was incomplete. Now I cannot access the router to gain internet access

If you cant get on whatever network is being broadcast from the router, theres a reset button on the back of the router. Hold it down for a few seconds and it'll be reset back to the factory default. Hook it up to the ethernet and connect to the network (should just be linksys)
From here, open an internet browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the url. Login using admin for the username and password. From here you can set up your router and put a password etc onto it.
Hope this helps.

I need to lock the signal in my computer so people will stop using it in my building

Hi,

You can change or setup a password for your router so that other people cant connect or use your internet connection. For you to setup your own password you need to access the router settings page and for you to access that you need to type 192.168.1.1 to he address bar of your browser and it will ask you for a username and password. The default username is "leave it blank" and the default password is admin. If you want to personalize the password of your wireless connection go to the Wireless Settings Page. Set the Security Type to WEP, WPA or WPA2 and put a personalize Network Key or Passphrase. Network Key serves as a password on the network so that the connection is secured.

Rate me if this helps so that i can help other people like you

I just bought an ipod touch and I thought it was already set up for internet. How do I do that?

No, iPod touch have no way of connecting to the internet other than wifi (unlike iPhone that has 3G).
This means that there must be wifi signal around you before you can browse the web or receive email.

To check for available networks around you, on your iPod touch, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, then select the network that you want to use.

Often times, wifi networks are secured by a password, meaning, you need to ask permission to the owner of that signal to gain access. In a cefe for example, you can gain access to their secured network by simply asking the person in the counter.

Connecting to woreless internet connection

Be sure you use same security protocol on your PC than in your WLAN:
WEP or WPA or WPA2 protocol
Passphrase (PSK ) or Password
TKIP or AES.
Use same Key.Passphrase on your notebook as in your Access point.
Check if your Access point/router has access list enabled: either you disable it in your AP either you add your PC MAC address to the list.

I have a Comcast cable modem (Arriss) with a Linksys router attached to a Dell PC desktop in one room. In an other room is a Dell PC laptop with a Linksys Wireless -G Notebook adapter card inserted. I am...

you will have to access the router by the ip address.
(192.168.??.??)once you log in, user name blank and password admin. you will have to set up wireless security. there are several ways and each that is selected has a brief tutorial.

Sometimes, people who are gamers or use Ipods, leave the router unsecure but limit the wireless access by mac address or by ip address so only those wireless devices gain access.
