This is an obvious board issue if your not getting any lights at all battery blink or HD lights no screen BIOS board is dead, you may want to check to see if power is going from the plug in plastic pin on the board as well the plastic input pin may be solder split or cracked and not connecting.
So the obviously fix for this is take it in to a tech and have them test the board out to see if your getting power to the power button. If your not getting anything showing with even the battery charge indicator and all black out. Board replacement is inevitable, I dislike being the delivery person for the bad news. This does happen...............John

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite A105

The most common problem on these units is the ac connector solder joints break away from the motherboard. If you're sure the ac adapter is working, and the correct one, and it's not charging the battery (assuming the battery is good), it's most likely the problem. They don't have to appear loose to be loose.
Otherwise, it's motherboard time, or a loose screw, etc has caused a dead short on the board.
Good luck, if you have additional info, let me know.

SOURCE: DC in light flashes orange

You need to test the AC Adapter For Correct Power Flow-Through... Use A Multimeter (available at any Home Improvement Store)

If That Tests Good.....

You Will Need To Test The DC Jack (the port where your Charger Cord Plugs Into On The Laptop.....)

If An Incorrect Adapter Was Used, You Might Have Shorted Out The Motherboard..

Can i use any charger on s505

The Toshiba Satellite 5205 series of Notebook PC, and the S505 series model; uses an AC adapter (Charger) that produces 15 Volts DC.

http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,5205,PS520U-31P1RV,Laptop,AC-Adapters.aspx

You will see AC adapters sold that show 15 to 24 Volts. (DC)

http://www.duracelldirect.com/toshiba_satellite-5205-s505_ac-adapters_laptop_ac-b20h.aspx

This is because the AC adapter (Charger) has PFC.
Power Factor Correction,

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Everything-You-Need-to-Know-About-Power-Supplies/181/2

Also I see it is just a two pin AC adapter plug, to laptop.
Center hole is Positive, outer metal cylindrical metal shell is Negative.

Go for 75 Watts or higher though, and not a 65 Watt model.

[ On the case of the AC adapter;
Input: 100 ~ 240 VAC 50-60Hz

Means it can use from 100 to 240 Volts AC, and either 50 or 60 Hertz.

Output: 15VDC 6A

Means 15 Volts DC at 6 Amp's. (Amperes)

Watch the outside dimension of the cylindrical part, and the center hole dimension. Outside cylinder may be correct, but center hole may be too small. Or vice-versa.

My laptop charger is not working

Two possible causes:

1)your laptop charger is dead or malfunction

2)your laptop dc jack is loose or malfunction

If you need to turn around your charger at one position so that the laptop will charge, that means your dc jack is dead. Otherwise your laptop ac adapter should be replaced.

If you need to purchase a new toshiba charger, you may click the following link to take a look at Toshiba Satellite M30 AC Adapter:

Engine will not start

Around this shop we diagnose, and not assume.

1) Test the AC adapter (Charger)
Test with a multimeter set to DC Voltage. You should read VERY close to 19 Volts. (DC)

While testing have an assistant gently wiggle the power cord TO the AC adapter, and the power cable coming FROM the AC adapter.
See if there is an intermittent reading for either one. Indicates a break in the wire/s.

2) AC adapter checks out OK go to the DC Power Jack. This jack is the port on the side of the laptop, that the AC adapter plugs into.
(DC IN)

Remove the Battery, see if you can gently wiggle the Center Pin. Use a non-metallic object, or tool.

Also check if the metal shell inside the DC Power Jack moves around.
ANY perceptible movement indicates a problem with the DC Power Jack.

Fortunately, for this model the DC Power Jack is a Power Jack Harness,

http://www.lapdiy.com/toshiba-satellite-l305s5941-power-jack-wire-port-dc-in-cable-p-7556.html

The jack portion is a squarish shape with a channel formed around it, and sits in a cutout formed in the outside edge, of the Lower Case.

The harness coming from the jack has a plug on the end.
You just unplug it, and plug a new one back in.

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L305-L305D/big/remove-lcd-screen-replace-video-cable-09.jpg

In the photo above, it shows a Toshiba Satellite L305 series Notebook PC, partially disassembled.

On the right side you see the optical drive. Squarish shaped with one corner gone. Has a large white label on it, with a smaller yellow rectangular label.

To the upper right you can barely make out a Red wire. It is connected to the black DC Power Jack.

Looking straight across from it to the Left, you see the other end of the Red wire connected to a white plug.

That's the DC Power Harness, and where it plugs in.
This is the entire article,

(Page 2, and 3 is listed at the top, and bottom of the page, in white.
Page1::Page2::Page3::Find another model )

Posted to show the DC Power Harness, and a pictorial guide that I feel will help get you started.

3) Power Button Board:
Has the Power On switch on it,

http://www.laptoppartsexpert.com/i-7600699-power-button-board.html

If the Power On switch is working, the laptop isn't going to turn on.
('Natch)

See the two wires coming from the board? Black and Red?
Red is the Positive wire, Black is the Negative wire.

Unplug the Power Button Board's plug to the motherboard. There are 2 pins. Carefully touch a small flat tipped screwdriver, (Jewelers is recommended), BRIEFLY to these 2 pins.

Laptop comes on you have a bad Power Button Board.

4) If none of the above is the problem you have a bad power sensor chip.
It's a Power MOSFET.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_MOSFET

Soldered to the motherboard, and takes skill to replace.

(It's a power transistor that is used in the circuit.
Need to use Heatsinks on the J type leads when replacing, and good skills for un-soldering/soldering.

But doesn't take a rocket scientist to replace it.
{ Sorry Gort }

This example is used in a LOT of laptops,

https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:oER5NNz8cwcJ:www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/FD/FDS6675BZ.pdf+Fairchild+FDS6675BZ&hl=en&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEEShOhWPjm_M-ROHme4iEMrztCTOd-28jNiy1hVLQQh_VOyv8zcXEVDB_iTQA6MuZO88UmRkDgjyW9j4CP2aIJ-4DS-h6JNM3lvxldeApQeecmz_DADCw1s7tmNLxfPknqX14SZP6&sig=AHIEtbS_rYUAeo_8rB9YHkW05ZjLqeH4Jg
)

Or replace the motherboard.

I cant find the right charger im looking for i think it must be an old model its for a Toshiba satellite A40 151

Hello,

I understand you need to replace your AC adapter for your Toshiba laptop computer model
A4-151.

An after market charger is usually OK, if you very throughly check the charger for the connector into your laptop and the voltage and current rating. If you have the bad unit, verify these factors with the supplier I have provided below for you to copy and paste into your web browser.

If any doubt, try other supplier sites as this is the number one problem of trying to get the right AC adapter. The other option is to buy from Toshiba direct, but will pay 3-4 times more.

Good Luck

A665 Toshiba satellite when i switched on no dispaly after a while it's turn off the fan is noisy

Please remove the battery and ac power adapter. hold power on button for 1-2 minutes. Then try to power on laptop with ac power adapter without battery. check the display of laptop.
If not check the dc voltage of the ac adapter. is it the same voltage as written on the ac power adpater. if not same please try with another adapter.
If not remove the hard disk and ram. clean the fan, ram. Reinsert ram and power on with ac adapter. check the display.
Please check with external display if laptop is turned on but no display.

When i plug my charger in to my satalite L655 and turn it on. An orange light flashes.

Hello, stoneyless
The orange flashing you are referring to means that your battery is currently out of power. I would recommend trying a friends laptop charger (same brand and model) to rule out the charger, if you know the borrowed charger is in working condition and your pc still doesn't power on then you may blame the battery. From that point i would send it in Toshiba for a replacement battery AND charger (if still under warrenty). if warrenty is no longer viable you would have no choice but to find a suitable replacement for either the charger or battery. OR you can buy the same Laptop and take out the battery and laptop cable and return the laptop with the faulty equipment.

Screen black & with no power

hi there,

you can follow this instruction and try to your laptop to resolved the problem.

A bad connection between DC-IN power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with Toshiba Satellite M35X and Toshiba Satellite A70/A75 notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it’s still under warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you.
Problem symptoms:
  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
To fix the problem, you have to take your laptop apart, remove the system board to resoleder or replace the DC-IN jack. Toshiba Satellite M35X and Toshiba Satellite A70/A75 disassembly guides will help you to remove the system board. Take a closer look at the power jack on the system board with a magnifying glass. In most cases you get the power problem because of a bad connection between the DC jack and the system board, you’ll see a crack between the DC jack connector and the system board.
Here is an example of Toshiba Satellite M35X power jack. The crack occurs between the DC jack pin and the system board.
satellite-m35x-crack.jpg satellite-m35x-contact.jpg In some cases the connection is good, but the DC jack is bad itself. You can find a new DC jack for Toshiba Satellite M35X and Toshiba Satellite A70/A75 laptops here. Search for DC jack M35X or DC jack A75.
How to resolder laptop power jack yourself.
UPDATE:
Sometimes, after you replace the jack, you can see that the system board doesn’t get power at all. The battery will not charge and the power LED will not light when you plug in the AC adapter. So, here’s a possible explanation.
When a connection between the positive pin and the motherboard breaks (cracks), the power jack gets loose. You can feel it when you plug in the adapter plug. A loose power jack can damage the trace inside the hole in the system board. Take a look at the picture.
power-jack.gif As you see, the positive pin goes through the hole in the system board and you solder it on the top side. Right? What if the trace between the top side and the bottom side is broken somewhere inside the hole? I’ve seen it before a few times. In this case everything looks nice and clean on the top side. When you plug in the AC adapter, you get normal voltage readings between “+” and “-“ pins on the top side, but the power DOESN’T go to the motherboard at all, because there is no connection between the top and bottom sides. Test with a multimeter if there is a connection between the top and the bottom.
If the trace inside the hole is broken you still can fix it. You can run a wire to connect the top and the bottom sides. Be careful not to short something on the board.
Update:
Here’s another solution to fix the power jack problem, it shows how to relocate the power jack outside the laptop base. Check it out here: Toshiba Satellite A75 failed power jack workaround.
When you repair a loose power jack, it’s a good idea to check the jack on both sides of the motherboard. When you remove the top cover from a Toshiba Satellite A70/A75 laptop you can see only points where the jack is soldered to the motherboard as it shown on the second picture in this post, but you cannot see the jack itself as it shown on the first picture.
Removing the motherboard from Satellite A70/A75 laptop is a good idea because the jack itself might has a broken “+” pin, as it shown on the picture below. If the “+” broke off the base, you’ll have to replace the jack.
