Press the +-/WB/FUNC button. Use up/down to select Drive Mode (the rectangle, third item from the top). Use left/right to select two-second or ten-second delay. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button as normal.
When connecting a digital camera to your computer with the usb connector, then turning it on the memory card in the camera becomes a removable drive under My Computer and will also bring up a dialogue window that will ask if you want to import pictures, etc. There is no need for a driver. I have been having the same problem. Once opened, the sliding
door will not close and the lens won't retract. But I have found
that if you plug the camera into a computer via a USB, the lens then
retracts enabling you to close the lens cover.
I'm still trying to find a way to fix this problem, since this is a great camers and still takes fantastic pictures.
If you are beyond the one year factory warranty, you do qualify for the upgrade program. As of last check, your model qualifies for the S3 is for $165 plus shipping.
Ditto for me as well. Did anybody have an adapter that lets you power the camera directly? I'm thinking about opening it, but who knows? 5 year obsolescence time-out?
Maybe this fuse is blown: http://www.hit-karlsruhe.de/aol2mime/images/S45_S50_PowerFuse.jpg Short it or replace it. See also http://www.hit-karlsruhe.de/aol2mime/canon_powershot.htm Good luck! eNDi
When you start to close the lens cover, a pin pushes against a spring to trigger the lens retraction sequence. You can easily take off the front cover to investigate this, and possibly adjust the angle of the spring to make it less sensitive. Just be careful not to yank out the ribbon that connects it all together.
