Fax modem sound volume

Is there a way to increase the modem dial tone and connect volumes on the Dell 4700 compute running WinXP SP3? I can barely hear it, but the FAX modem works fine. Henry

Go into the device manager and select the modem to change the volume.

Click Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager then scroll down to Modems and click the + sign next to Modems to expand and see your modem. Right Click on your modem and select Properties. When the Properties window opens up click the Modem tab and then select to change the Speaker Volume. Just slide the volume meter to the right by using your mouse pointer to increase the volume.

U need to double confirm the phone line whether got dial tone or not. What u can do is to plug the phone line to a single line phone. If dial tone is available, u can able to make call.

SOURCE: was able to get connected to the internet twice to

Generally this is an indication of a modem failure. If there have been any storms in your area, then the modem may have been zapped. The dial tone curcuit is normally the first casualty when a modem gets hit with more power than normal.

Provided that your telephone is functional on that line (Unplug modem, and connect a handset if this is a modem only line and see if the handset gets a dial tone, this is a good check to make sure the line is functional)

SOURCE: vno sound volume not working

  1. Double-click the speaker icon in the system tray.
  2. Verify that the audio settings slider bar is at least midway for all audio selections.
  3. Remove any check marks that appear in the mute boxes.
  4. Make certain your speakers are plug into the GREEN socket on the rear of your computer.
  5. Check your speakers to see if their power supply is plugged in and functional.
  6. Check in the Device Manager for a Splat near SOUND,VIDEO,AND GAME DEVICES.
  7. You also might try System Restore and go back several days when you know for sure it was working.
  8. Update the drivers from dell's site, there is only 1 Audio driver...here is a link to that page:

I have two dell laptops that are having the same problem of no dial tone

First of all, be sure that the connection you have configured on the computers are Dial Up connections.

If you have restrictions activated on the telephone line, removing them might help. Some other services of your telephone provider can also prevent your modems to properly detect the dial tone. It might be worth to take a look in that direction.

It might also be a problem with the telephone line. Try also to dial the number normally entered in the dial-up connections. You should hear a ringing tone shortly followed by noises similar to a fax machine. If you hear this, you access correctly to your providers dial up server and the problem would be with the two computers.

A am not getting any sound when faxing or when faxes are coming through and my volume is on loud why is that.. I disconnected plugged it back in changed some settings and i still get nothing

Your HP all-in-one provides three levels for adjusting the ring and speaker volume. The ring volume is the volume of the phone rings. The speaker volume is the level of everything else, such as the dial tones, fax tones, and button press beeps. The default setting is Soft.
1 Press Setup.
2 Press 4, and then press 8.
This displays the Basic Fax Setup menu and then selects Ring and Beep Volume.
3 Press to select one of the options: Soft, Loud, or Off.
Note If you select Off, you will not hear a dial tone, fax tones, or incoming ring
tones.
4 Press OK.

I cannot receive faxes using my fax console in WinXP. There is no dial tone. When I query the modem, the log reveals this command in the frame: AT#CLS=? COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED. I used to be able to...

Hi:
I have'nt used computer modems to fax in a long time, but will try to help, If you can edit the command line enter ATDT this command means Attention Dial Tone. Enter this command to see if you hear a Dial tone. I also suggest you try taking out the modem to reset it. let windows load without the modem in the computer then shut down windows compeletly and reinstall the modem so windows can reinstall the drivers for the hardware, if you have upgraded windows to a different version since you last faxed, then it would be wise to look for updated drivers.

Hello,

Make sure that you have your telephone line from the wall jack plugged into the port on the fax that says "LINE" and that your telephone is plugged into EXT.

All your cables and jacks seem like they are working since your phone gets a dial tone, the onyl thing could be that the wires are mixed or the modem on the fax is broken.

Thanks,

Pat

I am trying to use the fax facility on my epson600fw.my isp is aol .Problem no dial tone. What connections are necessary............via printer, modem & computer ?

Typically, a fax machine is connected directly to a telephone wall jack with a known working connection. Try plugging the fax machine directly into a wall jack first and pick up the handset on the fax machine if it has one. You should get a dial tone. Then try to fax something to someone you know.

The machine can also usually be routed through the modem in a computer by connecting the "line" cord on the modem to the wall jack and plugging the fax machine into the the "phone" jack on the modem. You may need to install the software that came with the fax machine to get this to work.

If you have no dial tone, check the wall jack with a known to be working single line phone. If there is a dial tone, it's something to do with fax machine, the computer modem or the connections.

Some fax machines can take advantage of internet faxing through a cable modem or DSL connection. Check your manual for the options available.
