If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: Laptop shuts off when unplugged, battery is fully charged

Chosenone, Even though the battery meter shows it fully charged I doubt it?s correct. Over time rechargeable batteries loose their ability to store power. How long depends on the battery manufacturer and how well you treat it but you can consider yourself fortunate if your battery lasts three or four years. Beware of people who suggest you take apart your batter to bypass the safeties or replace old battery cells. Defective or improperly handled batteries can overheat and cause fires when you least expect them. Let us know if you have any more questions and please don?t forget to rate this post.

check the battery that powers your cmos. if your laptop is like my compaq armada, there's three screws at the top which free up the keyboard cover. there are three latches near the bottom of the keyboard. the keyboard swings up towards the top. there's two film type connectors in the middle of the motherboard. pull these out and the keyboard comes free. look in the upper left part of the laptop for a small disk type battery with a red and black on white nylon connector. replace this battery. it is a lithium-ion battery.

SOURCE: compaq presario R3000 Laptop power and fan problems

Your machine is overheating. Try cleaning the vents with a can of compressed air and making sure the heat sync is free of dust. If that doesn't work, you may need to replace the fans.

We keep loosing power here the last few hours. I'll give you the download location but just download it and put in a special folder under the folder you created for this set of tasks. Call it Bios Updates. Tomorrow I get you the directions on how to use the floppy to boot to and run the flash program and how to make a backup before you flash. We'll done one step and you email me what you see using your tower.

Here's the file to download:

Talk with you tomorrow. Still no word from Laura's Dad about her Mom and Laura is not taking this well. This poor woman is a cancer survivor and has had her share of miracles already, its clear she is so tired of fighting and when they moved her to Hospice she just fell asleep and hasn't woken up yet.

SOURCE: cannot turn-on my laptop

Hello Mahriah.
Try the following steps:
1) Remove the AC adapter and battery from the notebook. 2) Press the power button and hold it for a minute. 3) Reconnect the AC adapter, battery  and try starting the computer.
The issue might be with the excessive power in the capacitors on the Mother Board. We are performing the Power Drain procedure which will drain all the excessive power from the capacitors and it may make the laptop to work properly.

Works fine on battery or charger with battery removed ,add battery and it quits in 5 minutes

Your battery could be old, therefore doesn't hold any long term charge.
Every time you add the battery it probably doesn't charge 100 percent therefore it discharges within 5 minutes, shutting down your laptop.

Cannot remove charger or laptop will shut down

the battery or battery slot on your laptop is damaged. make sure to clean any dust off around and in the battery slot.
id suggest compressed air, preferably static free.

if it still isn't working, then try replacing the battery. its very likely to be defective in this case. try consulting your warranty to see if the battery is covered.

if all else fails then the issue is the laptop itself. your only choice at that point is to let it be or get a new laptop.

Laptop won't charge anymore, it only works with

If the laptop is only a month old, then I would take it to place of purchase and have them exchange the battery.

If the system shuts down when the power is off, then apparently the battery is not being charged. Now it may be the plug, but the battery is easier to test out.

Good luck

This problem might be occur due to old BIOS version installed on the laptop.
If your system shut down unexpectedly within 10-20 minutes while playing games or scanning the system which takes high cpu usages then the problem is of BIOS and try to install the new BIOS version.

Thinkpad T61 Battery Problem

your battery may suffer from'memory-effect'
due to overcharging several times.

boot up as usual, switch laptop to standby-mode
and let it switched on until it shuts down automatically.
this will help to drain the battery to a very low level.
recharge battery until full capacity while laptop is still shut off, boot and measure time until it switches off again.
You may have increased battery capacity this way a bit! If this does not help, get a new one with a better capacity and remove battery when your using laptop at home for a longer time(this will prevent future overcharging), rely an ac/dc adaptor instead, laptop will funtion anyway.
