You too are experiencing a design flaw of the power regulator circuit for the harddrive. If you need to get those files off, you will have to disassemble the unit and remove the harddrive. Then plug the IDE harddrive into your computer and it will recognize the harddrive. Then you could reuse the drive by reformatting to the proper OS and save $.
You can also disassemble and use a computer power supply to power the unit to get your files off. You could attmept to replace the flaw chip wih stronger type, but need to be excellent soldering SMT.

Actually I tried that. I bought a usb enclosure long ago and when I turn it on you hear the usb sound on computer so it does recognize the usb is hooked to something however its not recognized in the my computer. Not sure about anywhere else as Im a remodeler not a computer teck
