Don't confuse pixels with bytes. A picture can have three million pixels and yet require less than a million bytes. The picture is stored in the JPEG format, which applies some data compression.
As a very simple example, consider a picture taken with the lens cap on. It doesn't require many bytes to say "three million pixels, all completely black."

How to increase pixels on my Canon SD1100IS

Press the FUNC/SET button. Use cursor-up/down to move to the lower-left corner. Use cursor-left/right to change the setting. The "L" setting gives you the most pixels (8 megapixels).

Full details are in the "Changing the Recording Pixels" section of the manual (page 68 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

I have canon power shot A3000 IS and i have a problem as i want to change pixels of this camera as i shot 3MB pics every time and due to this my card memory is full so how can i change pixels?

Press the FUNC/SET button. Use the up/down arrows to select the image size setting (marked with an icon sort of like a mountain sloping down to the left). You can change to Medium 1 (3264x2448), Medium 2 (2592x1944), Medium 3 (1600x1200), and Small (640x480). The Large setting is 4000x3000.

Memory card space

usually it will go back and show the time once you actually start recording. If that is not the case then you should format the storage folder on the device to ensure it was properly deleted.

Take higher resolution pictures? hehe!

Go to the settings menu of your camera, then into the picture quality options and stick it on "high".

High-resolution images will take up more space, so make sure your memory card is large enough to hold the number of images you're going to take.

At 6 mega-pixel (the resolution) each image is going to be around 2-3Mb each. A 1Gb (1024Mb) card will obviously store around 500 pictures. =-]
