Maybe.
But it does seem to be a lens problem. Possibly the lens is out of sync as mentioned in another post here.If there is a grinding, the lens is probably damaged by dirt or sand.
Make sure the batteries or battery is fully charged.

If you set the date during Green mode is on, then it will be reset. Turn the Green mode off first, then set the date.

How to set time and date on pentax optio M30

The date and time (and a lot more) are automatically stored with every picture in its EXIF metadata. Any photo viewing/editing program should be able to display this data. To print this data, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

Every time I change the battery in my pentax s5i the time and date revert to' as new' and I have to reset date and time. I have been using the camera for 6 years without this problem. Any ideas?

It may be a circuit designed to maintain date/time settings when the battery is removed that has failed.

Although a very good camera, I would imagine the cost of repair would be greater than the value of the camera.

A couple of thoughts though, if you are making an immediate swap with a charged spare battery, then there's a fault, you may find a firmware upgrade on the Pentax website which may help.

If there is a delay in replacing the battery, then having a spare, fully charged battery available at the time, may circumvent the problem.

I inadvertently programmed the date stamp on instead of off. Is there any way I can remove the date stamp from the photos that I have taken? The camera is a Pentax Optio 60.

The pixels behind the numbers are permanently lost. You can edit the photos just like any other photos, but it would be an edit, not a restoration. It's just like removing an unwanted person or signpost from a picture.
