Running Leopard on a box that old is not really the optimum thing to do. It's got 64 bit architecture and being a G4 is 32 bit, your box will not take advantage of the speed increase. As a matter of fact, and this is from experience... your machine will slow to a crawl. I wouldn't stick an OS newer than Panther on a box that old. Even Tiger slowed it down to ungodly proportions.

SOURCE: unable to upgrade to system leopard on my eMac

I don't know that you necessarily have to get rid of your computer. I have a G4 circa 2000 with 400 MHz processor. I run Tiger OS 10.4.1 and can run Illustrator CS on my machine.
It is not running at lightspeed mind you but it still works fine.
There may be some interim updates that you need before going to leopard... I would try talking to someone at an apple store or call tech support about it. Apple is really good about customer service.
Your eMac has to be "younger" than my tower G4 Gigabit Ethernet model so don't give up too soon. I don't think CS3 will use like 50% more resources compared to CS so your computer should be able to handle it.
Good luck,

SOURCE: Leopard won't install

Found this on the net:
http://www.brad-x.com/2007/10/27/howto-leopard-install-with-giga-designs-g4-upgrade/

Those upgrade cards always have given me a problem with migrating to Leopard. If you can upgrade to a used G5 or even Intel basd mac you might be more happier with less hassle.

SOURCE: The dreaded question mark???

It sounds as if your hard drive is damaged and is not mounting. As you are running OS 9 I suggest using Norton Systemworks and run it's disc repair facility Disc Doctor. This will make repairs to the hard drive to allow it to mount. (Unless the disc is too badly damaged). If this is the case you will need to replace the hard drive and re-install all your system and applications. If you haven't backed up your info, the damaged disc can be scanned and your files saved by a computer repair shop.

I HAVE AN APPLE POWERBOOK G4 I PURCHASE FROM EBAY IT IS CURRENTLY RUNNING MAC OS 9 ,HOW CAN I UPGRADE TO OSX 10 ?

Hi Bobby
You will need to get an OS X installation DVD. Try eBay.Don't go for anything lower than 10.4 (Tiger)10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) should run fine on this machine.Don't bother with 10.7 or 10.8

Cant find the disc on my powerbook g4

STart up your G4 using the OS disc for leopard, but instead of reinstalling the system, go to the menu at the top of the screen and Launch Disk Utility.
You may need to remount your hard drive. The disk utitliy can do this for you. Then it should appear in the disk utillity window. Then you should be able to install the OS and away you go!

Install Leopard Problem

Were you updating to Leopard from Tiger using an upgrade install? This was a common issue caused by APE (Application Performance Enhancer) a third party plugin for Mac OS X. The solution around it is to do an archive and install which will remove APE while retaining all of your data and programs. The only things reset are system configurations (Wifi passwords etc.).
Good luck
