Just discovered this same problem and the belt was a mess when we pulled it out. Now have to try to find a replacement and see if we can get it back on. To find it though just remove the 4 screws that hold the red cover on 2 on the bottom and then two on the top. You will then see two screws near the front holding the black casing for the roller. Just unscrew those and the belt will be hiding under there. Good luck.

Changed belt , it broke again not sure why

Hey, this is Jim with Crucial Vacuum,

More than likely if your vacuums belt keeps breaking its due to your vacuums brush roll sticking, causing a build up of friction and strain on the belt.

Try removing the brush roll and clean off any noticeable debris such as hair, or carper fibers. After putting the brush roll back into place turn it manually a few times to make sure it can move with ease.

F5862 900 where is the belt on these

This model does not have a belt. The brushes are turned by airflow through a turbine assembly. Clean the lint screen first, then try to turn the brushes by hand. If they will not turn by hand remove the brush assembly, if the brush assembly turns freely the turbine may be seized.

My Windtunn begless hoover vaccum cleaner which i bought in dec gets very hot and smells like burning and belt gets hot and then it splits in two pieces,i changed 3 belts already .i bought it from...

check to make sure that the brush wheel turns freely ( without belt on ) -- if it does not turn freely then there could be hair or carpet strands twisted up on the ends of the wheel,, inspect and clean. also make sure that the wheel cartridge is sitting nicely in its mounting area,, ( again - make sure the wheel turns freely ). now if it is moving freely - then make sure the height adjustment on the vacume is set to the proper height for your carpet thickness,, it kinda sounds like the brush wheel is not turning because it has to much pressure on the floor.
so -- make sure wheel spins freely, replace the belt and adjust the height and then check the unit for proper operation.

The brush roller will not engage although the belts look good. Hoover upright windtunnel.

Sounds like the beater brush is frozen and won't turn. Remove the beater brush and clean off all debris, especially at both ends. You will find a square(?) piece at each end of the beater brush that holds it in place. This need to turn freely. Put a little WD40 on these where the center rod of the beater brush enters the small holders and turn by hand until they turn freely. Once this is done, assemble with new belt, making sure the belt is put on properly.

I replaced the belt with part# 40201 on my Hoover model# U5473-900; to only have it break again in 5 seconds! Is there something missing that holds it on that little bar?

Greetings,

When a brand new belt breaks in 5 seconds, this can only mean 1 of 2 things.

1. The roller brush itself may be bad and need replacing. If the roller brush's bearings lock up, and the brush can no longer spin freely, this will cause the belt to burn up immediately after you turn the vacuum on. You may test your roller brush by taking it out of the vacuum, and hold it on the very ends of the brush with your fingertips. Make sure you are only holding the bearing caps and not the brush itself. While holding the two bearing caps with your pointer fingers, try to spin the brush with your thumbs. Does the brush spin freely? If no, then you'll need to buy a new roller bush for your vacuum, unfortunately the bearings are not sold separately on Hoover vacuums. If the brush did spin freely (you should get at least 7 rotations out of one spin) then see reason number 2 below.

Your model uses Hoover Agitator Brush Part 48414132.

2. The belt was installed incorrectly. When a belt breaks immediately like this it can also be a result of it not being installed properly. When installing the next belt, after you have put the roller brush back into place, pull forward on the belt to make sure that the brush spins when you're pulling forward. Sometimes I pinch the belt underneath of the brush roller, and it will not spin freely, and will burn immediately if the belt is pinched.

It really can only be one of these two problems. I hope that this repair solution was helpful to you. If you need me to clarify something, please just request clarification here. If it did help, please be sure to rate my repair Helpful. Thank you so much!

Replaced the belts on Hoover WindTunnel U6473-900/brush won't tur

There is a belt tensioner that maybe not contacting the belt when you tilt the handle back, It is either jammed and not moving up and down freely or it is broke. Look down below the belt, there should be a small wheel, that has to contact the belt.

Hoover Upright...OLD vacuum, broken belt

The rod must be your brush roll. it should just pull out, Have you removed the cover over the brush roll? When you do get the brush roll out, turnb the ends and make sure they turn freely, if nit, replace it also.

Brush not turning

Check belt to see if it's ok, you may also wish to remove brushroll from vacuum to make sure it turns freely before putting on a new belt.

If the belt is getting hot, then it is slipping instead of turning the brush roll. Check thge brush roll, make sure the ends are turning freely. Is the motor running ok? If it is then either the brush roll is bad, need a new belt, or something is catching the belt, not letting it move.
