If you want to rep[lace teh motherboard ..you have no limits ..basically the only thing that limit your choice ...are the devices from teh old board you planing to use on the new one ..
So ..if you are planing to use the CPU ..you have to get a board with the same socket..but I would not recommend it unless you have a fast cpu ..and you know it is working ..
So ..if you are not limited by the cpu socket ..the only thing to look is to have buses for your hard drive and disk drive ..(so if you have the hdd on sata ..you need at least one ide bus for the dvd drive ..and the most important to have slots for the memory you have ..If your ram memory is on ddr2 ..pay attention for the frequencies ..It may not support ddr2 on 800 if you get a board that only uses on 533 or 667 ..but will work the otehr way around..If you have ddr2 on 533 will work on a board that works with 6667 and 800 mhz ..
the rest is not that important and will work ...be sure you have at least a 300W power supply ..or even larger if you are planing on using a fast video card ..
..So ..like I said ..the CPU socket ..and the ram memory used are the only limits ..real ones..the others..are usually supported well on any board with same slots ..
