Well, I did the same thing, replaced vista with XP Pro, and couldnt get the wireless to work (the xp runs incredibly faster on this machine, B.T.W).
After days and days of trying to figure out this same problem, I finally found the driver. I found it at gateway...the link is here... http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?param=Wireless_Broadcom_4312_v4.170.25.12_XPx86&st=kw
Hope this helps all of you who did the same!
Peace...

Supposedly, these work. Many Acer notebooks, if you burn a backup DVD will allow you to burn a set of both vista & XP drivers!

I must thank you for giving me the link for the correct driver for my Extensa 4420 laptop. I just installed the driver and it worked like a charm.

Thanks again and I truly appreciate your time and efforts.

Installing drivers

Can you give some additional info on what you are using for OS. In general the ATI software for Vista will install with no problem right from there website.

If you have jumped ship for Linux, then there are different issues with each distro. I currently use Ubuntu 8.10 and it comes with the ATI driver. It will recognise the hardware right after bootup. Other flavors like Fedora 9,10 are not as easy.

OS/Drivers incompatible Acer Extensa 4420

i can solve this easy,i had the same problem when i installed xp pro on my comp.it should be easier now than when i did it.first go to microsoft.com,go to their support and downloads section, then go to drivers and have them show you all the drivers you need ,then download them and install them,if that does'nt work let me know and i'll get you a program that will work.

Acer 4315 WLAN driver for WIndows XP

Sorry if I am coming into this early, but I had the same problem with my Acer Extensa 4420. Eventually, after tons of forum threads, I found that the same chip that's in the Acer computers is also in some Dell computers. Just ignore the fact that it says it's by Dell and download this:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R174291.EXE

Then, extract the files to a folder and from device manager, and point 'Network Controller' (or whatever your wireless adapter is named in device manager) to that folder.
