I can NOT find the icon on my lcd screen in my user manual for the canon S5IS. It looks like a hand upright, with 2 gusts of wind next to it.

It sounds like the image stabilization "on" indicator.

Icon of a shaking hand on LCD screen

The shaking hand icon has to do with the Image Stabilization control.
If it's continuously shaking, it's set in continuous mode, etc.
You can access control for the "I-S" via the menu...scroll down to IS settings. and you can adjust as desired.
