How much to load and where do you put laundry detergent

You did not post any info on the make and model. The front loading type of washing machines MUST use "HE" types of detergent. This is because a front loading machine causes suds and regular detergent is not made for reduced suds. The best laundry soap according to consumer reports is Persil. You don't need very much either. Most people use way too much detergent.

The "oversudsing" problem is usually due to operator error. These new front loaders require the use of HE laundry detergents. These greatly reduce the sudsing issue. They also require VERY LITTLE detergent. For example, a normal-size laundry load only requires 1-2 TEASPOONS of HE laundry detergent. Most folks use much more than that, causing a possibility of oversudsing.

top load detergent will suds a lot and detergents made for from load washers wont suds very much at all, suds ina front loader will cause it to not spin or drain very well while i know it is more expensive you should always use detergents with the HE logo on the package

I had the same problem - the fabric softener cup cam loose and I had to break it to get it out and the new drawer cost me about $65 to replace. I hope you made out better than I did.

Obviously this problem exists on this manufactured machine (Cabrio). It has to do with the design of the machine and the HE detergent required to be used. We are on city water and the smell is sewage gas. Hence, do your whites last with lots of Clorox/bleach, cause the detergent isn't strong enoug to kill the bacteria growing in the pipes. Look closer at drawer that comes out. The labels for pre-wash and wash are under the lip on my LG. Stand to the side and look towards your hand that opened the detergent drawer.

this usually depends on the type and brand of detergent you use. for example if you use standard detergent and it takes 1 cup, then you use concentrated detergent and it takes 1/2 cup. you have to check the detergent container for proper amount to use. for most detergents it is around 3/4 to 1 cup of detergent.

Why do you want to use a special detergent??? Tide works fine! You just need to use about 1/4-1/2 what is used in the American machines. Now if you really want some exceptional laundry detergent like we use in Europe, buy Persil (google it).

You will need to have a qualified LG technician come and diagnose this problem.  It sounds like a water valve is not opening up.
