I did the same, replaced two bulging capacitors...cost me 2.00 for the capacitors and $20 for the desoldering/soldering tools. First time doing anything close to this with any electronics...tv works great now.

SOURCE: My power comes on, then the green LED light

I am definitely a girl explaining this because I don't know the correct parts of the tv. Here goes. We had the same problem last year, called philips they advised I do a software update on the tv because that fixes everything....wrong. The light still flashed and no picture. I called them back and they said I had to find a philips tv repair to take it into....got lucky because there was one close by. Come to find out it was some board inside that cost $400 to repair. I thought cool it's cheaper than a new tv! Worked great until about 2 weeks ago the tv turns on and the light is green and picture pops up a minute later. Oh boy more problems! As I sit here right now my tv no longer has a picture. The green light is on but nothing. It's funny because we had it repaired this time last year. I'm fed up and buying a new tv!

I have a LG 42PN4500 plasma tv and it won't turn on. When I press the power button, the red stand by light flashes 3-4 times then shuts off. How can I find the problem?

The number and frequency of the flashes is symptomatic of the issue. Usually it would get you a start as to the reason. Here's a link for the service manual https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1206553/Lg-42pn4500-Sa.html
a 2013 Plasma that has been used for the 6 years, likely is about done with the screen. If the screen itself doesn't even flash on, the potential is you need a new screen. It will be significantly cheaper to purchase a new LED tv than get a replacement screen for a plasma. Especially of that age. There are almost no plasma TVs manufactured today due to the costs involved in the parts that break down... (aka the plasma screen) I wouldn't put a lot of research and time into a plasma that old. You can get a brand new 42" LED from Walmart (as of two days ago in Villa Rica GA) for about $140... If for your own edification, have fun, but I think financially other than the learning process, it is probably not worth fixing.

I have a Panasonic Viera less than 12 months old. All of a sudden it turned itself off and now won't hold power. It flashes on green, then makes a clicking sound, then the red light blinks 4 times. Can you...

This is a common problem an a failry easy DIY fix.

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

After disconecting the power cable from the outlate, ploget back in and the tv dos not come on. red light blinking constantly

that it is likely a power supply problem. It starts with a loud popping or crackling noise and then the set goes dead, except for a flashing red light on the front. best thing to do here is to unplug it from the power for a good min or 5 make sure the TV is not hot and try plugging it back in , also Plasma TVs and Samsung have had this problem for a long time this is the info i found for you.

The Panasonic Viera 50-inch plasma TV has received rave reviews from the media and consumers alike. Panasonic encountered problems with its plasma TVs last year, both due to degradation of the picture quality over time, which was much publicized due to a class action lawsuit filed over that defect, and for a power supply issue that was far less publicized, but for which there are many negative reviews online. So far this year, though, the reviews have been much more positive. I would like to share, however, that my experience has been less than positive in hopes of helping others who have had the same problem and in providing another viewpoint for those considering purchasing this TV.

Lot of Philips tvs have problems with capacitors drying out in the power supply. They will usually bulge or will require an esr meter to test them. what you can do is simply order a power supply (google) or take your tv to a tv shop to have the problem verified. I am almost 100% sure its the power supply filters, however if you talk to a tv shop and tell them what I have told you, they should give you a good price on the repairs.

Cant turn tv on when red light is flashing

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.
