Hi...there,
It's could be your LCD Monitor got surges inside...
Turn off your computer and unplugs all the cables from the monitor and computer too. Wait for 10 seconds... then reconnecting all the cables back and turn on your pc. If that doesn't solve the problems... then open the back cover to checked any loose audio cables. Good lucks!

My desk top moniter has built in speakers which have stopped working. Tried attaching a pair of speakers to moniter....nothing. The computer shop said it's most likely a Windows problem and to bring in...

Make sure the Volume is high on the monitor as well as on the PC. the speaker cable that is connected to the back of the tower to the back of the monitor you have to connect that speaker cable to the front on the tower in the headset port and try to play some music. that should work out if there is no issue with the sound driver.
You can uninstall the sound driver from the device manager and reinstall it. update the driver.

I have speakers built into my monitor but since changing from vista to xp they dont seem to work anymore im so confused and dont know what the hell to do because before thet they were working brilliantly

well the reason for it not working is becausethe windows lost the speaker's driver so what you need to do is to re-install the driver of the speaker.

Apparently the built-in speakers have one bad. You can have the speakers replaced for you at a good computer repair shop if you cannot affort to send it in at this time.

Get Moniter Speakers Working

Hello First of all you need a sound card on your computer with a Spk. (Speaker) or Phones (headphones) Out Jack it might be a symbol of a small speaker or headphones. You have to be sure you are getting a actual sound output signal from this sound card too. If the sound card is not working your moniter speakers would not have a signal to drive it. You also need a 1/8" Stereo 2 male stereo plugs on both ends, one end plugs in back of moniter other plugs in back of computer like I mentiond above. Make sure your Mute button is not selected on your computers volume button usally at bottom right of screen. Make sure the volume buttons are up to aprox 3/4 up also. Then for last on the moniter look in the menu i think you might have to keep pressing the menu button but i kind of forget now but its a Spk setting and volume setting in this speaker setup within the moniter as well make sure this is turned on and set at a higher volume level as well. Thats about all I can say without taking the moniter apart and checking the jack and wires and speakers. I would suggest you take it to a electronics or a tv repair or computer repair person to go any further then this. Hope you take time to read all of this I tried to put every step in here to help anyone out with this problem. Thanks for reading. Ken T

How to fix your speakers

Could you post with more specifics? If you're sure its the speakers then you can get a product that fixes the membrane(a torn membrane sounds like... a torn membrane), or you could replace the speakers, making sure you get replacements with the right voltages(take originals with you to shop). But it also could be a problem that's leading up to the speakers, and that's more tricky. you got to have the equipment to trace the voltages going into the speaker and find the fault, check where it stops. Good luck, and don't get electrocuted please
