Your laptop may have a combination of problems. Since the laptop was dropped, it is possible that your may a motherboard that no longer outputs video through the video controller, or the screen may have been damaged internally. Try hooking up an external monitor through the vga output of your laptop, usually located on the side or back of the laptop. If the external monitor works, then most likely it is your screen that's bad, if the external monitor doesn't works, then most likely it is your motherboard that's bad.
It the problem that it doesn't connect or that you can connect it but you get no display on your Samsung LCD? Assuming it's the latter, adjust your screen resolution down to 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 on your laptop. It's possible that your laptop resolution settings are too high for the LCD to interpret. Also, don't forget that you have to TELL the laptop to redirect it's video output to the LCD. There are usually three options on any laptop, 1. is laptop screen only, 2. is the external device (in your case the LCD), 3. is both the laptop and external device. These output is usually directed by pressing a function key (Fn) and a number key on the laptop. Look for the icon that shows two monitor screens with a ' as a separator.
- try to plug an external monitor on your laptop - if you can see a screen on the external monitor, then you have a faulty LCD - if you don't see anything on the external monitor, then you have a faulty motherboard
The RAM may be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper connection. Reseat the RAM module/s and boot up the laptop. If the laptop still does not boot up, remove the RAM module/s and take it to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM module/s for you. If faulty, then replace them.
If you see power lights but nothing appears on the screen, it could be a "POST" (Power-on Self Test) problem or simply LCD problem.
Here are some steps that you can try.
1. Remove the battery and the ac adapter then press the power button for at least 20 seconds to drain electric charges left from the system. (You may need to repeat this step to get it work.)
2. If above step doesn't work, try to plug in an external monitor and see if you get display from the external monitor. You may need to press the Fn + F10 or F6, depends on the key designed on the keyboard to toggle between displays.
3. If you get display from the external monitor, I'm sure your having problem with the LCD components. In this case, check and replace faulty LCD backlight, LCD cable or LCD inverter. The LCD inverter is often a culprit.
4. Try to reinsert the memory module/s (RAM) of the unit, try using one RAM at a time to see if it works. A faulty RAM will cause the issue not to POST.
5. If reinserting the RAM doesn't help, most likely your motherboard needs to be replaced.
It is definitely possible you have a damaged screen component. At this point I would recommend taking it to a service center or call them and have it shipped for repair. You may even have a local computer repair shop that could help you out and maybe save some money :)
The problem has been narrowed down by connecting it to the TV. We know the laptop works fine otherwise except for the screen.
hI, if the screen is completely white the problem could be a bad LCD cable. To cross check if the problem with the LCD or the motherboard. Connect an external monitor to the laptop. Tap the Fn + F8 key together to get the display to toggle to the external monitor if the display comes on the external monitor without any problems the problem is with the LCD and you would have to take the laptop for repairs.
