The Brinks Model 42-1014 fails

I agree.
I test timers.
Brinks timers are near lowest quality of all timer brands, yet all timer manufactures sell lower end products to meet price points. Brinks are probably made by one of the bigger brands.

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-set-timers.html

Test your outlet with cheap circuit analyzer from box store to make sure that polarity of outlet is not reversed. Notice that Brinks timers, like most plug-in timers, have polarized plug.
Polarized plug has wide and narrow blades so they plug into outlet correctly.
Wide blade is for Neutral, and narrow blade is for Hot.
If outlet has polarity reversed, this will adversely affect timer motors, and other appliances.

I bought a house that had an intermatic t104

If you only have a Black wire, White wire and a ground wire, you are only wired for 120 volts. For 240 volts you have to have two Black wires or a Black and a Red as well as a White (neutral) and a ground.

I NEEDAND CAN'T FIND DIAGRAM

1) T101P201 timer does not have a separate manual yet
http://www.poolandspacontrols.com/products/mechanical%20time%20switches/pool%20and%20spa%20time%20switches.aspx

2) However typical T101P201 timer is ordinary T101 timing mechanism inside Nema 3R beige-colored outdoor plastic enclosure, with additional fireman's switch.
Wiring for T101 shows on following link, and shows on door of timer enclosure:
Check that your timer terminals match illustrations because many timers can fit inside Intermatic enclosures.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T101

3) Fireman switch wiring:
T101P201 has a fireman's switch that wires directly to the pool heater thermostat.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Intermatic-Firemans-switch-156T4042A.pdf
If you are not using the timer for pool heater, or if heater does not have connection for fireman's switch, then do not connect fireman switch wires, and just tape them out of the way.

Problem is not clear and timer is not identified.
If I had to guess, the silver pointer is loose instead of stationary at 6:00, and the trippers are worn down and need replacement.

I am trying to learn how to set up the T104 timer

Here are two links that will be handy to keep on file:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-Intermatic-timer.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html

T104 is 240Volt timer.
When you open the door, there should be piece of translucent plastic covering the wiring.
As long as plastic cover is in place, it is safe to touch visible timer parts.
If you have a child who might stick something into the timer, then lock timer door.
As a general rule with electrical devices, do not stand on bare ground or wet surface or lean into or touch anything metal while working on timer. Put down dry boards. Same with your circuit breaker panel.

The T104 yellow dial rotates just like a clock.
The dial has ON and OFF trippers attached to outer edge of dial.
As these trippers rotate around they move on-off lever that turns the pool pump or Load on and off.
ON tripper moves lever one direction, and OFF tripper moves same lever other direction.
The manual override lever clicks back and forth with audible sound each time tripper moves on-off lever.

Move manual override back and forth and it will turn Load on and off.
Override should snap crisp and clean.

To set timer, lift and rotate dial until current time lines up with stationary silver pointer.
Stationary silver pointer is pointed at 6:00.

My Intermatic sprinkler timer's 'auto" switch

You can replace the 133T1115A switch if that's the suspect part:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-trippers-and-parts.html#sprinkler

Other than the switch, the only other thing affecting timer would be the trippers.
