Hi. Does your computer have an on board video board?...and if it does...have you downloaded any video software?....some video boards wont work properly if you have software for a different video board on it. Try going to your control panel..and see if you have more than one video board installed....and then disable it. Let windows decide which one to use.

Gateway FPD1976W 19" Widescreen LCD

davea47, Your monitor's internal "switchmode-power-supply" is probably having a problem. You may need to do some electrolytic filter capacitor replacement!!! Problem not new one!! You or qualified lcd monitor technician will need to open unit for inspection/evaluation of power supply board. Do some reading in the fixya profiles of "budmrtn" "buddymc" "12fixlouie" (me) and follow links you find there. After investigating your unit let us tech's here at fixya know what you will do to repair unit. 12fixlouie

You've got it, one of the circuit boards has one or more failed capacitors.

If you decide to take it apart, check for capacitors with either a bulging top or a yellow stain underneath on the board itself.

Befored taking it apart, because you will, even if just slighty, damage the screen case, check your warranties. I had one pop recently, it had a 3 year - return to base warrany.

If the monitor comes on with the Gateway logo and follows with no signal, the monitor is probably okay. If the computer seems to run with no display then I would suspect the video graphics card, but there are a lot of variables that I do not know. I suggest a computer repair store to check your system with an estimate.

My FPD1976W start botton is blinking blue. Why?

It is either not getting the video signal from your PC, check all the pins at both ends of the VGA cable), or it is in shutdoen mode due to short circuits or failed power supply due to bad caps.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

I have a Gateway Monitor service no. FPD1976w. It

Try connecting the monitor into a known working computer to see if it's a monitor or video card problem.

If the problem is isolated with the monitor, then I could say that the power supply board inside the monitor could have gone bad.

Good luck and have a great day!

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Monitor blinking on off

hi im josh in cebu phils.may i help you? just try this stuff it will help you. Monitor Problems:

THE COMPUTERS SEEMS TO BE WORKING, BUT THE SCREEN IS BLANK.
- Check the monitor if turned on.
- Check all the LED power on the monitor, if it has one.
- Adjust brightness and contrast controls all the way to the maximum.
- Check the video cable from the monitor to the computer to be sure if it is properly connected.
- Check the power cable. If it is connected properly at both ends.
- Try different monitor on your computer. If it does not work, the display card is likely at fault. Replace the display card.
- Try your monitor on a different computer. If it does not work, replace the monitor or have it repaired by a trained technician.

COMPUTER BOOTS, BUT DISPLAYS “JUNK” ON THE SCREEN
- It may be that the display card is defective. Try a different card. If it works the first card may be bad.
- Try the suspected bad card on another computer. If it displays the same thing it is conclusive that the card is bad.

DISPLAY IS DIM, OVERLY BRIGHT, OR BLURRY, OR UNPLEASANT.DISPLAY IS OFF CENTER. LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE OF MONITOR IS OBSCURED.
- Try adjusting the control knobs located on either the front or back of the monitor. It maybe necessary o open the monitors casing to get the proper adjustment controls. In this case be very careful because there are high voltages in the monitor.
THE VIDEO DISPLAY FADES AND BRIGHTENS, OR IS WARY.
- The voltage may be fluctuating due to so many appliances or electric devices on he same branch circuit.
- Turn off other appliances and peripherals, such as printers, external modem, refrigerator, microwave oven, transformer, etc. and see if that solves the problem. If the problem persists, try swapping out the display cards. If changing the monitor solved the problem, repair or replace the monitor.
IMAGE IS NOT STRAIGHT ACROSS THE SCREEN
- If the monitor is still under warranty, bring it back to the dealer for adjustment. If the you want to do it your self, bare in mind that this is potentially dangerous procedure because it must be done while he monitor is on and there is very high voltages around the picture tube.
WARNING: THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROCEDURE!!!
- Open the monitor casing and loosen the clamp holding he coils around he picture tube. You can loosen them (usually there’s a wing nut) and a rotate the coil assembly until the picture strengthens.
good luck please vote

I have a Gateway LP2417 monitor and there's No sound.Hoe do I fix it,so I can hear the video that is playing?

This monitor may not have built-in speakers. It may have supported Gateway's monitor mounted sound bar. That sound bar connected to the 3.5 mm audio out on a computer and a DIN port on the monitor. The simplest solution is to connect your source to appropriate speakers. Depending on your audio setup, you could connect the video source to a receiver with HDMI IN and HDMI Out (ARC), computer speakers or an audio extractor. (If you are using an HDMI cable between the Gateway LP2417 and a computer, you may need to reset the audio output to use basic computer speakers (3.5mm jack).) VGA and DVI connections don't support audio so I assume you are using the HDMI port. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Do i need a driver for old gateway gmax2000 speakers connected to an old acer-based home built pc my nephew gave me?

No you don't need a driver. These are very plain powered speakers that come with a mains adapter and a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack at both ends. Plug one in the speaker and the other into the headphone jack on the front or the speaker socket on the back which will either be a socket on the motherboard, or if your son put a sound card in the computer, it will be in a sound card. If it doesn't play straight away, go into Settings - Audio and make sure the sound card or the On-Board Audio is enabled.
