Without knowing the model number on your TV, I can't be absolutely sure. However, for some Haier TVs the volume + and volume - buttons go through the options for a menu selection. (Volume + moves the cursor to the right.) The Channel up and down buttons serve as the up/down arrows to navigate between lines in the menus. This applies to both the LD42U7000 and the U55H7000. I would guess its LED lamps in the panel that are bad and the power board is shutting down because of over voltage or current

Manufacturer couldn't supply a replacement remote for my TV so I ordered a dedicated replacement from a company I found on Amazon.

Do a reset to this TV, and then check. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. Its an easy fix, you got into the service mode somehow, its used for calibrating colors ect...the easy way to fix this is to do a factory reset, that will reset the TV to the settings it had when it was new..I've include a link to the service manual, i didn't go through it to find the page you need but its easy to factory reset a TV with the manual...Good luck! You can check it by reducing the value of the resistor, connected to ground at one end of the deflection yolks' vertical scan out windings. Usually, this resistor will vary a value of 1.2 Ohms to 2.2 Ohms. But, if you reduce this value too much, to say at about 0.15 Ohms or so, there is a possibility of damaging the vertical scan output IC. So, do this very carefully. It is a trial and error process. Check it with gradual reducing this value of this resistor; by 0.25 Ohms at a time. Wish you success. I hereby advice you, assuming that the horizontal width of the picture is OK. I'm not sure what type of TV you have (Plasma, LCD, LED) but either way, these tvs works as a computer, they have different boards, (I think 5 of them, not sure). Now I'm no expert, but the problem could be the Y board, or the displays ( I forgot what is called) adapters, you see them on the edge of the TV. I'm just trying to help here with little I know, my LG TV was fixed but the display always flicker also.

You get software if any from the mfg of the set.

You have either a screen fault or a faulty T.Con board need to go to a technician for proper diagnosis

A lot of course would depend on the brand and model number of the set and a better description of flashing.....
