Sounds like back-light inverter section circuit fault. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. Please disconnect and then reconnect the 2 devices before moving forward. But you can wait 45 seconds before re-connecting the devices. If that does not work, please reference the manual for your contour box. Thank you.
Pull the mains plug and count to exactly 50 and plug it back in. This is a sort of a reset.
All televisions need a remote. Just buy a new one. Buy it for the specific model. Nobody buys universal remotes any more.

Try are Factory Reset to set the picture settings to default. If that doesn't fix it, you will need a repairer or a new one. They are a 'cheap' brand.
