We have several Farberware FSU255 coffee urns in
I have the older style 55 cup coffeemaker. It is critical that the coffee grounds basket compress that spring on the stem. Pull the spring upward alittle until the basket rises slightly above it's seated position until you put the lid on and it will put the necessary pressure on the stem down in the heater element hole. Also there is what appears to be a loose washer on the bottom of that stem (where it fits into the heater unit) This washer must be free to move around and it acts like a check valve to prevent water that has "perked" up the stem from falling back down the stem.
Can i put hot chocolate in it to keep it warm for
If you leave the hot chocolate for more than 30 minutes then chocolate will sink at the bottom of of the urn so the tap will be blocked and even if it will run the you will not have a unify dring. The hot chocolate dispencers have a rotating mixer in orderto avoid the above problems. So if you mix evry 10 min then you can have good result
Need a P13-1355 stem and spring for 55 cup urn
I called Farberware directly and they do not make this coffee urn any longer and no longer stock the part. They do however stock parts for a 36 cup urn that they said had the same size stem pump on the end. The difference was in the length. I ordered 2 of these and plan on using 1 to lengthen the other one to the correct length. My son is a welder and believes he can do this for me. We will see what happens.
Usually trips breaker but occasionally works fine
it could have a small leak to ground on it,,, thats why it trips the brakers,, on a higher braker the leek off also needs to be higher than 50milly amps to trip the braker,,, this unit uses 13 amps

Coffee urn heating element not working
there are 3 or 4 componants inside that could cause the problem.
if you can use an ohm meter, check all of them for continuity.
a switch
overtemp fuse
perk control fuse, or keep warm fuse
element
all should read "short " or almost 0 ohms when the unit is unplugged '
Water heats but stops perculating
Check the spring under the grounds basket on the pump tube. This is supposed to hold the end of the tube down in the heater well. It should compress when the lid is pushed down on the basket and twisted to lock in under the handles.
I have found a good source of parts for Faberware urns and percolators at goodmans.net. The thermostats and heating elements can be easily replaced and the urn returned to original condition. Rich of Colorado
Vintage farberware percolator does not stop percolating
There is a thermostat in the bottom of the percolator that is broken. It would normally cut off the percolator heating element after the water reaches a certain temperature. It can be replaced but it takes a little skill. There is a video on eBay.
If you want to just unplug the percolator, time it for 1 minute per cup.
