Make sure your vent is closed. check the filter to see if its clean. If you run the a/c you can check your evaporator to see if you have condensation or does it freeze up?
Make sure you have your unit on early in the morning. If you turn it on in the afternoon the humidity might be too much and it will take along time to cool down.
Try those things if that doesnt work then you need a service call.

2 things one) check to see that you have suffecent air flow through the coils , in other words make sure the coils are free from dirt and debris should be shiny and new. Any flow blockage causes the plug to trip due to the amount of ampherage being pulled because of blockage. 2) Gfi switch hads gone bad in that cause purchase another plug.

About 6000 BTU but that is the old way to measure it

Could be fan failure. The sound you here probably is the compressor running.

Reset the power to reset the unit, this can happen due to voltage fluctuations by your supplier, 1/2 the time in my experience this clears the error .
