It looks like the camera's autoexposure is compensating for the changing light levels. As you pan around, the brightness of the scene changes and the camera changes exposure to compensate.Try locking the exposure, using the instructions in the "Shooting with manual adjustment" section of the manual (page 44 in my copy). If you need a copy of the manual, you may download one here.

A broken hinge assembly is the most probable cause. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Perfect picture but audio glitches...

audio "glitches" or dropout is a typical symptom of tape path misalignment. find a good local repair shop (are there any more of us still around?) and they should be able to perform this relatively simple alignment.

I have a vx2000 and it has a flashing yellow box

Sounds like the DEW warning is activated.
This occurs when you take a camera form a heated room to an external cold environment. Condensation forms inside the camera.
The Dew warning serves to protect the tape and camera. Wait until the camera acclimatizes and the condensation disappears.
There is most likely nothing wrong with the camera.

This can be caused by several things. One common problem is a faulty cable. If you have another Firewire/1394 cable, try that.

A second problem is using the wrong cable. I don't remember if the VX2000 takes still photos, but if it does, many Sony camcorders have a USB connection for transferring the still photos. However, the USB connection will NOT transfer video.

A third problem is drivers. This is usually only a problem on older Windows computers. By older, I mean Windows 98, Windows ME, and the first generation of Windows XP (the first generation is "service pack 1"). However, if you have Windows XP and have done updates, then you probably have the correct driver. If you haven't done updates, then you need to get the update for Firewire/1394.

Finally, if you haven't tried re-booting the computer, that very often is needed -- especially with older (more than five years old) -- computers. Even with modern computers, the computer will often get into a state where it won't recognize peripherals. I recommend shutting off the computer completely, disconnecting the camcorder, and then turning off the camcorder. Then, re-start the computer and after it has booted, turn on the camcorder and after it is on, connect the Firewire/1394 cable between the camcorder and the computer.

Hopefully the camcorder connector is OK. I have broken several Sony Firewire connectors, and it costs about $300 to have them repaired.
