I cannot seem to solve an audio problem on my VX2000. I taped a buddy's wedding and need to put together a DVD however the audio is choppy. I have been to several sites trying to figure it out and this is what I have found so far. I thought it was a Mac problem but my macbook pro is brand new.
It is not the tapes. I have tested it with expensive tapes and cheap tapes and the same thing happens.
I have recorded on 16 bit audio which worked fine originally.
I have cleaned the heads.
I have not messed around with anything else.
What can it be? Is it the equipment? Do I need new heads? What is the process for that? How expensive is that? I got my camera while ago and it has performed great for the past few years, like 7 years now.

Tape path alignment is very critical for these cameras. audio dropout is a typical symptom of misalignment. find a good local repair shop; if they know what they are doing, it should be a simple alignment job.

If you are on about the VX2000 which is similar to the professional DSR-PD150 remove battery or supply then simply apply 3volts to the main mech drive motor and unthread the mech from the load position you will notice if it is in the load position because tape will be laced around the drum assembly hence the fact you can not remove the tape
Tape mechanism problems are quite complicated but theycan usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.
My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I just made contact with a service tech who seems very competent and who won me over. Have problem with video and audio dropout similiar to dirty heads on a 10 year old DCR-VX2000 but which is a larger problem attributed to worn parts which will need replacement. Do not know how old your unit is, but will share name of person/company if you wish. Only thing that worries me is if you by chance had had yours repaired by them!!! They are a Southern California company.
Hi, sorry for the difficulty in using the system. I will advise you reload the operating system again. Make sure it's from the real manufacturer, I mean don't go for pirated. If it doesn't work, then back up your files and folders and format the system. I wish you the best.
This seems like a tape playback problem. Can you look at the output of the tape in the camera directly into a monitor? And checking the tapes on another machine would also be good.
The fast movement breakup can be something in the playback circuitry of the camera. It may not show up in the viewfinder. Also yo umay try repacking the tape. Fast forward it to the end and rewind it all the way.
the head drum motor are going faulty after a long time using. in your camera fault is in the machanism [tape deck]. your old head is also o.k. please change the supply pully & TG plate in the machine. and realigned the camera with good tape. try it..i hope you got very good results. regards sanjay
