Well, it is not a bad mike connection since you connected another external mike to unit. If it worked before then something bad has happened to your audio electronics causing this anomaly.

I'm sorry to know that the audio is cutting off while recording in the tape. I'll be glad to assist you with this.
I suggest that you try different tapes and check if it happens with all the tapes. This may also happen in the recording head of the Camcorder is dirty. You can try cleaning the head using the Video head cleaning cassette to resolve the issue. You can use the DVM12CL cleaning cassette to claen the video heads.
This should resolve the issue.

This is usually caused by an oxidized, misaligned or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

Two ways

1. use the A/V cable - computer needs to have a Analog TV card to work with the camera.

2. use the Firewire cable that came with the camera - use windows movie maker.

1 Connect your MiniDV camcorder to your computer via FireWire cable. If a FireWire cable did not come with your MiniDV camcorder, you can purchase one at any electronics store.
2 Click "Start."
3 Click "Programs."
4 Click on "Windows Movie Maker" to launch the software.
5 Turn on your MiniDV camcorder and place it in "Review" mode to view footage already on tape. Rewind your tape to the beginning of the segment you'd like to capture onto your computer.
6 Click "File" in Windows Movie Maker.
7 Click "Capture Video."
8 Click on the name of your attached MiniDV camcorder from the Windows Movie Maker "Capture Video" screen.
9 Click "Start Capture." Windows Movie Maker will play the MiniDV tape in your camcorder and capture the footage onto your PC. When you've reached the end of the segment you'd like to capture, click "Stop."

Cam gear in mechanism would be broken and causing that problem.
Camera will take apart in detail and it is qualified tech job to fix it, take it in local camera repair shop for fix as it is not user level repair.

If the problem is no audio recorded from the internal microphone, then it has likely failed. See http://www.bealecorner.com/trv900/trouble/micfix/index.html for a simple repair procedure you can do yourself.

The v900 has some years on it. It will need the heads cleaned ,possible torque adjustment or replacement of the video drum unit. To clean it is only $40 at Larry's electronics [email protected]

try new tape, clean recording head

while your monitoring the sound when recording it cuts out or while you playback the tape it dropps out? if it's noticed during playback it's one 3 things. the heads are dirty, the tape tension is low or the heads are bad. send it to video tech service in sacramento. that guy is super cool.

Only 1 GB memory stick is enough for this camcorder.

If it were worth repairing, as a Sony agent, I would replace all of the capacitors and clean up the board then reset the mechanism and test. Probably too old being 2001 vintage.
