Great, although you have a real scanner, this is not what was meant in this category. With program your scanner, is not meant you need to write any program. It is just setting up the scanner. That can be done every time you need a different setting. Like if you want to scan FM frequencies, you can set how big steps it should take. But you also can chose other modulation forms. You don't need any Xtals, for that you "Program" the frequencies you want to listen to. Just switch the scanner on, and listen to what you hear. use the manual, to see where you can find certain users, to chose what frequent band you want to listen to. and switch to that band.

Just remember, agencies will change frequencies, Hardware, and radio types from analog, to digital, to trunked. you will need to send for repair if all you see is the black lines on a ups bar. if you see # you can fix that.

Check the antenna to make sure it is securly connected. This may also be an issue where the crystal is removed or dead.

Not sure what's going on here, unless you have the squelch set too high, and it's not allowing any sound. I found a site that has the manual and programming information, and perhaps it would be worth going over and double checking steps and settings:

you may be trying to pick up a frequency that is to far away for that scanner. not all scanners pick up as far as others.

http://www.police-scanner.info/police-scanner-frequencies.htm make sure you have the right frequency first. If so frequency # has a . in the # make sure that you put it in or it well not go.

They have updated this model many times, so no, they don't sell it anymore. In the '80's he would have paid about $50 for it new. Current value is about $30 or so ....
