What OS do you have? The drivers (supported OS versions) for the LiDe 80 are available here: http://www.cusa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide_80#DriversAndSoftware . If you have Win7 64-bit, the Vista x64 driver doesn't work even in the compatibility mode.

If you want a work-around for the 64-bit OS, Win7 Pro and Ultimate allow you to download and install XP mode free. This takes two programs, Virtual PC and the XP mode, that you download from Microsoft and install. This will run a virtual computer under Win7 and you can install the scanner to the virtual computer. To share files with the real computer, you should store them on external media.

Alternatively for Win7x64, you can install any of the other Virtual computer programs (Parallels, VMWare, etc) with a licensed older version of Windows. Then do the same as above. Another option is a dual boot computer with the older licensed version of Windows with the scanner installed to the "machine" with the older OS. I don't see a Unix driver for this scanner so you need a valid copy of Windows.

this is the support site ...and the driver I found there is for windows 7 but on 32..Cause they do not have one for 64 bits OS yu should download and try the Vista one on 64 ..cause the compatibility is usually high and it s worth give it a try ..If not the only way you will be able to use is if you reinstall the windows & on 32..You will not feel much difference but the driver's compatibilities will be easier to match

Assuming you downloaded the driver from this page on Canon's website , try also downloading the latest CanoScan toolbox software if you haven't already done so. Also, if that doesn't work. Try going to the Device Manager (Start Menu > Control Panel > System > Device Manger (on left side of screen)), right click on the scanner driver and then left click on uninstall. Try reinstalling the driver to see if it takes the second time around. Use the latest driver available (most likely from the above page if that's not what you downloaded before). Let me know how you make out.
