No out gowing audio on vista
Your problem might seem to be a problem of compatibility of a drivers software. You just right click my computer icon and go to properties in which you will see the device managers. Go to it and you will see there some what like sound, video, game controller. Just right click or expand that tab and right click it and update the drivers or scan for hardware changes. This will search for appropriate drivers.
Computer is not starting
Try disconnecting the power cord, remove the battery (there will be sliders/clips underneath to release it) and leave it like that for about 5min.
Plug the battery back in and connect the power cable again. It should hopefully turn on again then.
If this does not solve the problem you will need to either send it in to Dell or get a computer shop to take a look at it for you as there may be a more serious fault with it.
Malfunctioning computer freezes when booting from a cd or floppy
Hello,
The problem is with the corrupted boot files and some system files .In
my opinion you have one solution
Steps for solution
1.
Download an operating system called ' Linux mint ' which
can be installed in the pen drive having minimum 4 gb
capacity . Using this operating system you can access the computer .
2.
Copy the file and folders to an external storage device (external hard
disk, pen drive etc..)
3. Reinstall the operating system (
XP,Vista ,Window 7,Ubuntu etc )
Hope you be successful

How do I install the hard drive in a Dell Inspiron
At the bottem of your laptop there should be panels that are held in by 1 small screw, your hard drive should be in the largest of them not the battery panel, unscrew the screw and it should come away, there is somtimes a screw or two holding the hard drive in place undo these, put a bit of pressure on the hard drive and try to move one way or the other until it moves away from the connectors and the drive should then pull out. hope this helps.
I bought a Dell inspiron 400 laptop. I will boot
I would take the hard drive to a computer repair shop and let them scan the HDD and remove the infections. They can also repair the windows installation files so it will boot back up. Either way, you do not have to change out the memory unless you want to install more.
Dell inspiron 4000 power problums
If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, until they won't charge up at all.
Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.
My Dell Inspiron's DVD has suddenly begun making a
This is usually happens if the DVD drive receives too little power from the laptop or maybe it's just needs a cleaning.
I would try first to clean it from the inside, using a cleaning CD. If that doesn't help you will have to check maybe with a technician if the drive is receiving enough electricity.
Some info- Dell is known for her malfunctioning drives, mine sucks. It reads okay, but burns crappy CD+DVD. sometimes these drives needs to be replaced after a while
Touch pad scroll bar not working
You say it has been restored so I assume that Windows has been re-installed. If so then it is probably using the generic Windows touchpad driver and you need to update to the specific touchpad driver. Go to HP Website and download the touchpad drivers.

Install Win XP SP 2
Yes you can, Do I recomend it, no, Why?
Windows easily uses up to 756MB of RAM to run the O/S alone but can run at a minimum of 512MB.
I have personally seen it run on as low as a 900Mhz processor, 256MB of RAM and on a 10 gig hard drive.
If you decide to install windows XP on the specs you describe above please note the following.
1. System will be very slow and have lengthy start up times.
2. Applications may crash or take a long time to open.
3. With all the updates for WinXP you will easily use 8 gigs for installing XP and its updates. Not to mention whatever software you will use/install.
4. On a system with those low specs, you probably have a low end video card whcih may result in: A. chooppy windows, screen freezing, system crashes and lock ups, low video graphics all around.
I would probably go with windows 2000 instead. If your bent on having XP, at least upgrade the RAM to as much as possible. Then install windows and only install the programs you really need, remove any other junk.
Hope this is of some help to you, good luck
