Hello, Ciprian - Your television service provider (cable or satellite dish) provider may not allow DVRs which the company does not provide. We have AT&T Uverse as our cable TV provider and must use the DVR the company provides (and charges for.) Have you checked the policies of your TV service provider regarding the use of DVRs not provided by the service company?

1. Press SETUP on the remote
2. Press 5 0 1 8 and Pick Region-code from 0-6 (0=Region Free)

You can record and finalize DVD+Rs one time. After you fill a DVD+R or

complete all the recordings you want on a single DVD+R, finalize it.

Otherwise, the DVD+R will play only on this Recorder.To play the Disc on

other DVD Players, you must finalize it first.

Once you finalize a DVD+R, you cannot record on it anymore or make

editing changes.Therefore, make sure the Disc is as you want it before you

finalize it.

appears in the menu only when an unfinalized DVD+R is in the

Recorder.

"Finalizing" will appear in the menu.The process may

take a few minutes.

When finalization is complete, the Index

picture screen will reappear.

You cannot unfinalize a DVD+R, and you cannot record or

edit the DVD+R after you finalize it.

A DVD+R will play on other DVD Players only after the
Disc is finalized.

clean the lazer with alcohol.

System error, or memory is full.

Please check your lens. Clean it and retry. If problem persist, replace your lens.

all of these DVD recorders are very choosy on what they record on and dont record on (try Maxell DVD+R 4-16x) verbatim and panasonic is good also note when recording on +RW you must format it first

Have you tryed to clean it wit a lens cleaner. Sounds like just needs a good cleaning.

Don´t yo put the progressive scan function

Try unplugging it from the mains for 2mins

Check your dvd player specs. It may not read dvd-r disks. Hope this helps.

Your device is designed for playing back region 1. It will also playback disks recorded with a region setting of all. The region setting of the device is fixed. Also it will only playback NTSC, and not PAL . This is also fixed on your unit. Sorry I could not bring you better news. However there are many burning and conversion programs you can use on your computer (ie Nero Vision, ConvertXtoDvd,..) which provide you the optional settings you are looking for, and allow you to burn in the setting you choose, allowing for playback on your Philips device. You may be seeing the results of what the laser has to do about midway through a movie, and that is the laser coming to the end of a disc, then re-focusing onto the second layer of the disc which takes a second, in order to "backtrack" the disc and complete the show. Normal on all sets, and is the nature of the beast. Some higher end players don't do this as obviously due to larger "buffer" memory to help "smooth" over any delays in pix and sound...accordianman

Hey there Dante471, you can roll back the driver to it's original setting before the update. Control panel / Administrative tools / computer management / device manager / your dvd drive / driver / roll back driver. I suggest you shut down all other applications, and follow procedure with a restart. If further details are required or you need elaboration on method, let me know. Good Luck!
