The tv is on Mono and wont budge there is a picture but not sound no remotes will work..wont even turn off by the base or remote its frozen. what do i do.. I dont even know how old it is..

You will have to get a RF Modulator so that you can hook up converter box and your ps2, your tv is saying progam channels because there is no box hooked up anymore,

crt beam current too high causing shutdown as you know. Check cathode voltage of each cathode, normal levels depend on picture is around 130-150V. Missing 200V to crt board. Screen voltage problem normal 300-500V. Flyback or bad crt. ABL circuit problem. Jungle IC.

you need to plug to input socket on the Tv , not output.

I couldn't tell you where to find a free service manuel as it seems these days every ones looking for a buck for what they offer, but as for fixing it it is possible that the switching board ( the board that houses all the function switches ) is cracked. You can remove the board by removing the 1/4 inch screws and find the cracked section by visually inspecting it. With a soldering iron , solder and some bear wire, you can patch the broken board. After repairing the broken connections, apply some epoxy glue on the back of the board where the crack was and reinstall the board after the glue drys. It should work fine after the minor repair. A line across the screen means a loss of vertical sweep. This could be as simple as an IC or as difficult as a deflection yoke. These are not do it yourself repairs.

it might be due to high voltage in tv. you must have smell like burning. do not worry it happens so many times due to failure of transistor or fly back transformer.or some capacitor gets shorted. call skilled tech to fix it it is not a major problem. you may see fuse blown or has become black but do not try to replace it as it has blown due to something is short.unless you are a tech person as tv is chrged thiogh it is off. hope this will help. good luck.

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!

I'm assuming that you have checked that the sound is not muted. To confirm that a reset to factory settings is the next procedure: Menu - Setup - General - Factory settings. If you don't see/hear any modifications then it's a hardware defect, not something with the settings.
This happens when the tv thinks that the headphones are used. Simple test to confirm that: plug in a pair of speakers and see if you get the sound on them. If you get and the situation doesn't changes when you unplug them then this is a mechanical defect: the small switch inside the headphone jack is faulty and keeps signaling that the headphones are plugged in when they are not.
The only way to fix that is to replace the jack, which involves a very delicate soldering procedure , one that only a good repairman can do - you must call one.

This sounds like a panel issue Sarah, if this is the case the set isn't repairable.

The EEPROM has lost it's boot log, replace the main board and the set should work

The ribbon cable is either loose or dirty.There could be a problem with the HDMI connections.
