The high pitched sound means there is a short on the Deflection board which is the middle board. Most likely it is a shorted transistor or capacitor on that board. Not a do it yourself fix. Someone needs to get the chassis into the service position and check for shorted parts on that board.

There can be several causes for this, few of which you can do anything about. However, a few things to try.

1) Replace the batteries on your remote control.
2) Try resetting the logic functions on your tv by unplugging it for a minute, then plugging it back in.
3) Try covering up the infra-red receptor on the front of your TV to see if you're getting unwanted signals from the receptor. taping a piece of foil over that area is perfect. If it doesn't stop after doing these two things you'll probably need to take it to a shop.
4) If this does stop it, then look for unexpected signal sources. Have you added a remote control extender? Added a new device to your audio-video system? Changed to a new remote?

Common problem with this model. Goto www.tvrepairkits.com and get their chirping TV set repair.

try to adjust the focus from the back inside the tv it may be out of whack because of the focus

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become  cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images. 

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Blue convergence IC defective.Will require chassis pull.Senior technical skill level needed.

You will have to get the original remote I,m afraid. There are not any universal remotes except the programmable learning type remotes that will work those functions for you. Check the voltage to the relay, usually 12v dc. Also check the relay or replace as it may be stuck after the tv warms up. The micro chip for functions could be locking up. Try spraying a little freeze spray directly on chip after tv is locked up see if this unlocks, if it does you have a bad micro chip.

Replace the Ssb (Small Signal Board) Philips p/n#313912725871 common problem.. The surface eletrolytic caps go bad and after awhile heat sends their equivilent series resistance too high and the sound fades or drops out... It's about a $250.00 dollar board plus core and your alternative would be to pull it and send it in to PTS electronics for a rebuild. Sorry for the bad news. On a Philips 55P8241 I would remove the lower grill, (just pops off), then remove the screws at the base of the screen and lift the screen off... Be VERY careful setting it down... You are then inside the main projection. Claen the mirror, cans and lenticular screen with windex and a soft paper towel and reverse the process putting it back together.. Good Luck Bill

High pitch noise is created mostly by a Coil or a transformer,is not easy finding the source if you are not familiar with this type of coil since there many sizes and shapes,the set needs to be on while trying to find wich part is doing it SO if you dont know where and how better call a Technician and you will be safe.

http://www.screenkleen.com/index.html That stuff is the best you'll find. Ever. You'll need to take your TV apart to access the inside of the TV. Take the speaker grille off and possibly assembly frame surrounding the TV(They usually snap off) you should find screws under that to further assist with disassembly.

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!
