Can I transfer a pattern from brother 4000d machine to usb
Welcome to Fix Ya!
Are you trying to transfer a built-in pattern from your machine to a USB flash drive? I'm not sure if built-in designs can be transferred in their original form. You might try editing the design a bit, save it to a memory space, then save it to the memory stick. If you have a manual, it should describe how to move designs from your embroidery machine to your computer, and vice versa.
If you are other readers have time to rate my answer, you'll help me become a better expert. If you can give me more specific information about what happens when you try to upload a design from your machine, and whether you have a manual feel free to leave a comment and I'll check back with you.
Cheers, Ginny

THREAD CARTRIDGE WONT LOCK IN PLACE
Hi - I'm sorry you have been waiting for an answer to your problem. Can you tell me whether this was first time you used the cartrige, or has it been working up until now? Unfortunately, the cartridges tend to break fairly easily.
To determine whether your cartridge is broken, take out the thread and thread it again. The cartridge won't lock-in unless your presser foot is up and your needle is raised to its hightest position (needle threaders are designed to prevent damage, so they often won't work if the parts of your machine are not positioned properly for threading).
If the cartidge still won't engage, check the page in your manual that describes the parts that came with your machine - you should see a picture of a spool pin. Although the spool pin is designed to accommodate spools of thread that don't fit in your cartrige, you can use the spool pin all the time. Your manual describes how to install the spool pin.
Fortunately, you can purchase spool pins and replacement cartridges from several online sources, including eBay, and some Babylock Dealers sell them (the Babylock and Brother cartidges are interchangeable). I have the same machine, and I always keep an extra cartridge around. I can thread the extra spool while the other is sewing. When the machine stops for a color change, I just insert the extra cartridge with the next color, then thread up the empty cartridge for the next color. Speeds up your embroidery alot.
On Google, type in Brother Thread Cassette - you'll get lots of hits, and you should be able to find a cartridge for about $10.00.
If you have and other readers have time to rate my answer (good or bad), your rating helps me determine whether I understand your problem.
If you have more details about your problem or have additional questions, please feel free to comment. I can send you the instructions for threading the cartridge and installing the spool pin if your manual is missing. Just submit a comment - and I'll help anyway I can.
Cheers,
Ginny

The "race" on your machine needs adjusting. Remove the bobbin cover, bobbin, & case. What you have left is the race, it moves when you turn the large wheel on the top right of machine. The needle also moves up and down. There is a hook on the race that catches the needle thread. Try moving the race to the line up with the needle. It may take a couple of trys but it should do the trick. Also clean any threads that may be caught on or arround the race. Hope this helps!
Bobbin thread coming up through top of design
My 270D does this when I'm about to run out of bobbin. If you just replaced it I'd guess you either wound it wrong or are using the wrong type of bobbin spool. It could be too loosely or too tightly wound.
I can't find out how
I am not totally sure but I do not think you can leave a space. If you are doing two or more words and want to leave a space then you would have to completely finsh sewing at the end of each word(cut the thread) and start the next word seperate. To continue sewing straight through the thread will remain attached and will form a stitch. Sounds strange but if you think about it, it is logical, with the machine threaded and sewing, every needle stroke WILL form a stitch. Other thing you could do is at the end of every word select an "underscore" and stitch this to whatever gap you need between words then start your new word. Once you have finished unpick the "underscore.
Sounds a bit complicated and time consuming but as I said I have never been asked this before and it is a guess at a solution.
Best of luck
Rob
WRITING PARAGRAPH WITH 400D
you will have to write a portion of the scripture that fits in the hooped area then rehoop the piece and contine on. Try this on scrap first as re hooping can be tricky to line up if you have not done it before. A hint is to mark where your hoop is at first with a water soluable markerthen line up with these marks. Another might be to see if there is a larger hoop for your machine.
Card not not be used??
there are some memory card that has physical lock, you can see it on the card itself, but for some, you can check it if you put the card into your computer, and try right clicking on it, it would then tell you if it's lock or not.
The feed dogs stick and bunch up the fabric and pull it out of the hoop.
I would take it back to the repair shop with some of your samples and the "mess" in place so they can sort it out for you.......after all, you have paid them to do a service and should have a 30 or 90 day warrantee implicit in that arrangement.
I suggest you phone first to arrange to meet (with the tech too if possible) and outline your concerns, they do have a responsibility to you.
Whenever this happens to me (rare thankfully) I give the machine priority and generally talk it through with the customer and try a sew test with them present so we can see what is happening then and there.
I would not advise you to "play around" inside as it will void any warrantee.

Connecting to a computer
Are you asking how to connect the Brother PE-400D sewing machine? You have "how to connect the '4000D' to a computer and what risk if any". Which machine are you asking about - these are two different sewing machines. If you are inquiring about the Brother PE 400-D, then your answer is... this machine is NOT capable of being connected to a computer. However, if you wish to purchase or download embroidery designs from the internet, you may look into purchasing the Brother PE Basic. This allows you to download embroidery designs from the internet to your computer hard drive and then load them on to a Brother memory card. The Brother memory card can then be slipped into the proper slot for the memory card on the sewing machine. You will need to purchase embroider designs that are in the PES format for you Brother machine to read it. Hope this helps!

- In the event that changing the needle didn't determine the issue, have a go at rethreading the machine, guaranteeing legitimate pressure, and cleaning the bobbin region for any build up or garbage. On the off chance that the issue continues to happen, consider counseling the machine manual or looking for proficient help.
