Sew Smart Bottom Threading Problem
There seem to be a number of folks with the same machine - same problem - stitches won't form. Unfortunately, this many of the same machine with the same problem would tell us to return it and look for a different brand/model. We can only suggest the same - but have posted the following for you all to try (posted individually for another reader earlier this morning - just discovered the multiple same issues):
A few things to try:
- Loosen the needle screw, make sure the needle is fully
up in the needle hole and re-tighten the screw. Vibration can sometimes
cause the needle to slip...and the needle not fully inserted can cause
this problem.
- Make sure the bobbin is turning the proper direction.
If your machine has a standard bobbin case that comes out of the
machine, turn the case so the bobbin is facing towards you. Pull the
thread tail and make sure the bobbin turns clockwise. If it's turning
counter-clockwise, flip it over and try your machine again. If your
machine has a drop-in bobbin, double-check your particular machine
instructions to make sure it's going the right direction (clockwise or
counterclockwise depending on the machine).
- Make sure you have tension on the upper thread. Do
this by lowering the presser foot (make sure the thread tail is NOT
under the foot) and give the thread a tug. You should feel tension on
the thread. If not, the thread isn't fully down in the upper tension
disks. You should be able to give it a further tug to pull it down into
the disks. No tension on the upper thread can cause the stitches to not
form.
- If none of the above seems to help, you'll need to get
your dealer involved (provided you purchased your machine from a sewing
machine dealer). They can determine if it's just something happening
during threading or if the machine is out of timing. They are there to
help you before AND after the sale and should be willing to take care
of whatever is happening.
- If you did NOT purchase your machine from a dealer,
and the store you purchased from does not have a sewing machine
technician, we would suggest that you return/exchange it for a new
machine and see if the new machine has the same problem (most
department/big box stores that carry machines have a very liberal
return policy since they do not have personnel dedicated to sewing machines).
- If the new/replacement machine has the same issue, we
would suggest you return it (no sense frustrating yourself) and perhaps
find a local sewing machine dealer to purchase a machine from.
Authorized sewing machine dealers are geared towards providing machines
and service (before and after sale) and are worth the extra $ for the
peace of mind and knowledge that you'll have someone local to call on
for help.
Best of luck with your machines - we hope it's
something minor and you're up and sewing soon! Don't hesitate to reply
to this post if we can offer further help, ideas or suggestions.
Happy sewing,

Needle not moving
Good morning,
Unfortunately, if the needle bar is not attached to anything, you'll need to return it to the dealer you purchased from for a repair/replacement (depending on how long you've had your machine). If the needle bar has become detached, it is not something that you can easily repair yourself (re-timing the machine may be necessary).
If you did not purchase from a machine dealer, and your machine is no longer under warranty, you'll need to check with the store you purchased from regarding their return/replacement policy. If they cannot take care of the problem, you'll need to find a local sewing machine dealer who will. Most authorized sewing machine stores have technicians who can work on just about any machine - and many do not charge for just taking a quick look to determine if it's an easy fix.
Sorry we don't have a better answer - that you can take care of yourself - but sometimes things happen that just require a professional tech to look into.
Good luck,
Kim & Linnette

I need a new needle
It is tempting to say something about a haystack in reply, could you be a little more specific ?
Can you go to the place where you bought it, or call them ?
If you are in an urban community, find a sewing machine dealer and ask for a replacement to suit the machine you own........if it is less than 20 years old, it will almost certainly take a "flat back" type.
If you are in a remote community, find somewhere on the internet in your own country that will sell you some....just be sure to give details of the Make and Model

I need a copy of the instruction manual for the Sew Smart Compact Cordless 17390B.
If pictures are helpful, take a look
here
This is for a front loading bobbin
You have not mentioned the machine or model, so if this is not like yours, it will be a top loading or drop-in bobbin.
In either event, the idea is to pass the thread thru a small slot and thereby between a tensioning spring......your Instruction manual will have details for your model, tho' with a little thought, any manual for a similar machine (top or front loading) should give you the basic idea.
If you still have troubles, let us know the make & model.

The needle is not picking the thred from the lower
The timing mechanism is likely off. Take off the plastic bobbin case
and see if the eye of the needle, on its way up, is just below the
metal hook that catch the thread. If not, you need to ajd the timing mechanism
Need a manual for parts
The actual manufacturer is needed, Sew Smart is a name that is just put on the machine for either a dealer special or a store or a mail order company.
I have a Viking Topaz 50 the touch screen is totally un responsive. Will an update reset it? or is it just bad?
Even if the touchscreen is unresponsive, you can still update the firmware using the spcialized software of the manufacturer. If it was unresponsive AFTER that, you would have to take it to a repair center. If you have difficulty with the general instructions which follow, try Viking customer support.
Here are the general steps to update the firmware:
Check for Updates: Visit the Viking website or refer to your machine's user manual to find the latest firmware version available for your model.
Download the Firmware: Download the firmware update file to your computer.
Connect Your Machine: Connect your Viking Topaz 50 to your computer using a USB cable.
Run the Update Software: Install and run the firmware update software on your computer. Follow the instructions provided by the software to update the machine's firmware.
Wait for Completion: The update process may take a few minutes. Ensure that your machine remains connected during the entire process.
Restart the Machine: After the update is complete, restart your sewing machine to apply the changes.
